MLS Odds 2024: Messi, Inter Miami CF Favored to Win MLS Cup

Betting on Major League Soccer is as easy as ever with the expansion of legalized online sports betting in the United States. The top sports betting apps carry the latest MLS Odds & Betting Lines, allowing fans to wager every matchday.

Fans looking to bet on a long-term result, or perhaps have to drive from a non-betting state, can also place a wide range of future bets. Major sportsbooks offer odds on teams “To Win MLS” and lift the MLS Cup, win its conference, and odds for top players to win the Golden Boot winner (regular season top scorer).

Match Odds & Scores     Standings

The arrival of Lionel Messi has raised worldwide attention and attendance for MLS. With a group of ex-FC Barcelona stars, Messi’s Inter Miami CF is the overwhelming favorite to win despite missing the MLS Cup Playoffs last season.

Defending champion Columbus Crew SC, last season’s runner-up LAFC, and reigning Supporters’ Shield winner FC Cincinnati are next on the favorites list. It’s important to remember that, unlike most major European leagues, the MLS winner is decided by a playoff system similar to that of other US sports leagues like the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL.

Odds to Win MLS Cup 2024

The 2024 MLS regular season began on Feb. 29 and will conclude on Oct. 19, with each team playing a 34-game schedule. The top nine teams in each conference will move on to the MLS Cup Playoffs. The MLS Cup Final will take place on Dec. 7, and some of the best sports betting apps have already posted the 2024 MLS Cup winner odds.

MLS Odds By Conference

Major League Soccer consists of two conferences. The East has 15 teams that will play all conference opponents twice and six cross-conference opponents once. The West has 14 teams, which will play conference opponents two times, one to two additional conference opponents once, and six to seven different cross-conference opponents one time.

MLS Betting Favorites

The following are some of the MLS betting favorites for the 2024 season. From clubs signing big names in world soccer to yearly contenders, these teams should catch the eye of soccer bettors. Check out the best odds from the leading sports betting apps below.

Inter Miami CF MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Lionel Messi , Luis Suarez

Having Lionel Messi, one of the greatest players of all time, could be enough for Inter Miami to win the league. A small sample of the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner’s impact came from last summer’s Leagues Cup, where Messi made his club debut stateside and led Inter Miami to its first trophy with a 10-goal month.

When Messi is injured, Miami’s title hopes drop. That was the case at the end of last season when Miami failed to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. This season, Inter Miami is winless when Messi does not play.

To avoid a Messi-dependency, the club has attempted to build a super team with former FC Barcelona stars Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba. That core is complemented by MLS veteran Julian Gressel, Finnish goalscorer Robert Taylor, and rising talents like David Ruiz, Tomas Aviles, Noah Allen, and Drake Callender. Add injured prodigies in Facundo Farias and Benjamin Cremaschi, and the team has rounded out a roster worthy of being among MLS’ best this season.

Head Coach Gerardo Martino has the buy-in from Messi for several reasons, including coaching him at FC Barcelona and the Argentina national team and winning a championship with Messi’s boyhood club, Newell’s Old Boys. “Tata,” as he is nicknamed, has won the MLS Cup as a manager with Atlanta, and this Miami squad has the talent to do the same.

Inter Miami has started the season prioritizing the CONCACAF Champions Cup over MLS, leading the team to fall in the Eastern Conference standings. That has bettered the price for those looking to bet Inter Miami to win MLS Cup.

Columbus Crew SC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Cucho Hernandez , Diego Rossi , Christian Ramirez

MLS’s original club, Columbus Crew, won its third league championship to move into third all-time, just behind five-time winners, the LA Galaxy, and four-time champions, DC United. They accomplished that under first-year head coach Wilfried Nancy and key players Cucho Hernandez, Diego Rossi, Christian Ramirez, and Darlington Nagbe. That entire cast, along with a rising star like Aidan Morris, returns to go back-to-back, something only three other teams have accomplished.

Columbus is undefeated at home this season and should be considered to repeat, barring any critical injuries. Early schedule congestion through the CONCACAF Champions Cup seems to have helped rather than hurt. A few uncertainties had emerged for Crew SC with the absence of goalscorer Cucho Hernandez, who has since returned, and a potential European move for goalkeeper Patrick Schulte. At least for now, it looks like Columbus will count on both of them for the remainder of the season.

LAFC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Denis Bouanga

As the champions in 2022, LAFC was unlucky in coming away without a trophy during the 2023 season. MLS Golden Boot winner Denis Bouanga was a beast in attack, scoring 37 goals across all competitions, to help the club to the CONCACAF Champions League Final, MLS Cup Final, and Leagues Cup quarterfinal. Bouanga has signed a two-year extension, and that’s only good news for LAFC’s title hopes.

Steve Cherundolo remains the coach, and Black and Gold bolstered their goalkeeping situation by adding FIFA World Cup winner Hugo Lloris. They also welcomed Colombian midfielder Eduard Atuesta on loan from Brazilian side Palmeiras. If free agent Carlos Vela ever returns, last year’s runners-up will be in a stronger position to contend for trophies.

FC Cincinnati MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Lucho Acosta , Aaron Boupendza

The best regular season team in 2023, which made them the Supporters’ Shield winners, were among the favorites to be champions until rivals Columbus eliminated them in the playoffs. They lost star scorer Brandon Vazquez to Mexican side Monterrey but still have the reigning MLS MVP Luciano Acosta and Coach of the Year Pat Noonan. A full season for Aaron Boupendza should help the Gabonese striker mesh into the offense and become one of the top targetmen in the league.

Additionally, FC Cincy has bolstered its backline by adding USMNT defenders Miles Robinson (free agency) and DeAndre Yedlin (trade with Inter Miami). This adds to a defense that already includes the current Defender of the Year, Matt Miazga, and reigning MLS Save of the Year winner, Roman Celentano.

Seattle Sounders FC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Jordan Morris , Raul Ruidiaz

Returning to the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2023, the Sounders have been the image of consistency in MLS – only missing the postseason once in their 16 seasons. They missed the playoffs in 2022 only because they spent the start of the year going all in on winning the CONCACAF Champions League (now Champions Cup), becoming the third MLS team ever to do so.

Coach Brian Schmetzer also led the Sounders to MLS Cup titles in 2016 and 2019, but the club is transitioning after parting ways with midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro. The club still counts on USMNT forwards Jordan Morris and Cristian Roldan, star striker Raul Ruidiaz, and longtime goalkeeper Stefan Frei. Argentine Pedro de la Vega is expected to be essential as the Rave Green works towards its third MLS championship. For the moment, there are some growing pains with this squad and a winless start to the season.

MLS Value Picks

New York Red Bulls MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Lewis Morgan , Emil Forsberg

The New York Red Bulls have seen their stock rise exponentially with a few good away results and a flashy 4-0 win over Miami (without Messi) to start their season. The offseason signing of Swedish playmaker Emil Forsberg from sister club RB Leipzig has given this team the look of a dark horse. Lewis Morgan may be a player to follow in the Golden Boot race and an early candidate for Comeback Player of the Year. A youthful Red Bulls squad, one of the better academy systems in MLS, seems to have found the experience to balance its roster under new manager Sandro Schwarz.

Of course, it is a long season, and the passing months can bring moments of turbulence. In the Red Bulls’ case, Forsberg will be going through a divorce after apparently neglecting his family since moving to the US. Lastly, winning in the regular season doesn’t always correlate to the postseason and the Red Bulls have been more of the former than the latter, historically, until they prove otherwise.

LA Galaxy MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Dejan Joveljic , Riqui Puig

The five-time MLS Cup champions are often used to being in the title picture. This version of the Galaxy is climbing out of hard times. It has nowhere near the star power of David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan, or other marquee players who once donned that iconic white jersey. Three key young talents who will be asked to bring more consistent results are ex-FC Barcelona man Riqui Puig, Serbian striker Dejan Joveljic, and Brazilian winger Gabriel Pec.

The team started with a six-match unbeaten streak, including two away wins during that run, but lost to rival LAFC for a reality check. The early season signs were impressive, nonetheless. There are still ways to go to reignite the “Race to Seis,” but the Gs are making much better strides than expected.

Atlanta United FC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Giorgos Giakoumakis , Thiago Almada

Atlanta may have the best player in the league in young Thiago Almada. With the 22-year-old World Cup winner in the eye of European suitors, the question is how long the Argentine will stay. If he lasts the year, the Five Stripes will be a team to be feared, with forward Giorgos Giakoumakis completing one of the league’s better attacking partnerships.

After losing in the opener at Columbus, Atlanta has been dominant in home wins over New England, Orlando, and Chicago — with Giakoumakis scoring five goals across those three games. If United can put together a strong season at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, this will be a dangerous team in the playoffs.

Philadelphia Union MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Julian Carranza , Daniel Gazdag

The Philadelphia Union has been in the title picture in recent seasons but has been unable to close the deal. What makes them contenders again in 2024? They have one of the best coaches in the league, Jim Curtin, and one of the best academy systems, which develops professional players each year, like Jack McGlynn and Quinn Sullivan. The team also has effective goalscorers in Mikael Uhre, Julian Carranza, and Daniel Gazdag and one of the league’s best defenses with Jakob Glesnes, Jack Elliott, and three-time Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake.

Philly has drawn its first three encounters to start the season and lost 6-0 at Mexican side Pachuca in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, which could be a positive wake-up call. With international play no longer an issue, expect the Union to bounce back in the coming weeks, which has already started with an away win at Portland and a home win against Minnesota.

Minnesota United MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Teemu Pukki , Bongokuhle Hlongwane

Minnesota United FC started its season with an interim head coach but believes it has found its long-term manager after appointing former Manchester United assistant Eric Ramsay. Ramsay arrived to direct the team in a home win over LAFC to take the top of the Western Conference.

The Loons have a roster that has hoped to challenge for titles but could never get over the hump with former manager Adrian Heath. The likes of Argentine playmaker Emanuel Reynoso, former Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki, and rising winger Bongokuhle Hlongwane make Minnesota a team with much potential but little to show.

Unfortunately, Reynoso is a key piece to MNUFC’s success and seems to still be an issue off the field.

Sporting KC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Alan Pulido , Daniel Salloi , Johnny Russell

Striker Alan Pulido was the Comeback Player of the Year, and his health will determine how far SKC can go. With Johnny Russell and Dániel Sallói, the Kansas side can boast the best trident in MLS on the right day. Having one of the best goalies in the league, like Tim Melia, will always give Peter Vermes, the league’s longest-tenured coach, a chance to win it all.

The problem with Sporting is a lack of consistency. Until they fix that, they’re just another one of the bunch.

Orlando City SC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Facundo Torres , Luis Muriel

Orlando finished second in the East last season and was another casualty of eventual champions Columbus. In the offseason, they retooled their squad with MLS veteran Nicolás Lodeiro, Colombian striker Luis Muriel, and Slovenian defender David Brekalo. They also have one of the most experienced MLS coaches, Oscar Pareja.

Far from a finished product, Orlando City was recently smacked in a 5-0 loss at rivals Inter Miami and had an encouraging loss at Liga MX super squad Tigres UANL in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Unfortunately for Pareja, he has yet to get over the hump with an MLS Cup title.

Real Salt Lake MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Cristian Arango

Cristian “Chicho” Arango helped LAFC to an MLS Cup title in 2022 and was a bona fide summer signing for RSL last year. His late-season injury dampened the Utah club’s hopes. He definitely looks like the type of goalscorer who could change their fortunes in 2024 and is the current leader in the Golden Boot race. In the big picture, this Salt Lake team is one to watch because of Arango.

St. Louis City SC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Samuel Adeniran , Joao Klauss

Exceeding expectations in its debut season, St. Louis has a team capable of taking the next step towards contendership. An in-season injury sidelined Brazilian scorer Joao Klauss, but a new season for the Missouri club brings renewed hopes of a successful sophomore year. Samuel Adeniran continues to rise as a goalscorer and is off to a hot start with two goals in the early Golden Boot race. If City SC learned anything from their first season, they’ll save their best stuff for the end of the year.

Adeniran has recently become a subject of European interest. His departure would hurt St. Louis’ title hope unless he’s replaced with a comparable successor.

Nashville SC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Hany Mukhtar

Nashville has vital players that could be the foundation of a championship team, including former MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar and USMNT defender Walker Zimmerman. The club reached its first final in 2023 by getting to the Leagues Cup title game, only to fall to Messi and Inter Miami at home.

Defensively solid under MLS Cup-winning coach Gary Smith, the Tennessee club needs to start scoring goals to be considered for the cup. They started the year in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, which contributed to the team settling for three draws to start the season. However, a 5-0 loss at LAFC and a home draw to Columbus may have sidetracked the team’s rise and confidence.

MLS Longshots

Vancouver Whitecaps FC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Brian White

The Whitecaps are one of the early surprises to be among the top sides in the West. Perhaps starting the year with a CONCACAF Champions Cup series against Liga MX champions Tigres UANL has sharpened the team ahead of schedule. Despite the elimination, the Canadian club started its MLS campaign with a home draw and two road wins before hitting a roadblock in a home loss to Salt Lake. Head coach Vanni Sartini returned on March 30, completing a recurring suspension.

Houston Dynamo MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Sebastian Ferreira

The reigning Lamar Hunt US Open Cup champions are solid defensively but still have questions on offense. Their lack of goals kept them from reaching the MLS Cup Final, but a repeat run to the Western Conference title game will be hard if star Hector Herrera is not at his best. The Mexican midfielder has been out with a knee injury since preseason but is targeting an April 20 return against Austin FC.

Sebastian Ferreira returned from a hamstring injury to provide a match-winning assist at Colorado and a game-tying goal in a home win against the Earthquakes. However, Ferreira looks to be injured again, and without him, the Dynamo is thin at forward.

Portland Timbers MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Evander

After missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season, the Timbers have turned to Manchester United great Phil Neville to return the team to glory. The ex-Inter Miami manager has begun his second coaching job in MLS with two victories to lift the Timbers among the best in the West. Brazilian forward Antony has delivered as an impactful signing with three goals early in the year and what could be a surprise team on the contenders’ list.

DC United MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Christian Benteke

Christian Benteke scored some great goals in the Premier League and seems to have found that goalscoring form early in 2024. If the Belgian can provide more Player of the Week performances like his hat-trick outing to start the season, then DC United should be taken more seriously. At least the start of the season is more promising than it’s been in recent memory for the four-time champs.

CF Montreal MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Josef Martinez

The signings of forwards Matias Coccaro and Josef Martinez have paid early dividends for CF Montreal. The club is also in its first year under new head coach Laurent Courtois, a former MLS midfielder with the LA Galaxy. Time will tell if this early success will last, but things are looking up slightly in Quebec.

New York City FC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Talles Magno

Santiago Rodriguez leads the attack, but NYCFC is far from the side that won the title a few years back. Talles Magno is out due to a knee injury, but his return does not guarantee a contender’s run. After losing three times out of the gate, the Boys in Blue won its first game of the season until they stagnated with a loss and two draws. Take a wait-and-see approach with NYCFC.

Charlotte FC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Enzo Copetti

Like its sister NFL club, the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte FC is going through rough times. Things have been great off the field with impressive crowds at Bank of America Stadium. On the field, the results haven’t been there to deliver a team that resembles a viable contender. The good news is they have a few talented players and a long season to get it together. The bad news is there are signs to convince this is a different team than the one that has underachieved in recent years.

Colorado Rapids MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Cole Bassett , Rafael Navarro

The Colorado Rapids are dead last in expectations but don’t be fooled. A turnaround season in MLS is doable with the right pieces, and the signing of Americans Zack Steffen, Djordje Mihailovic, and Sam Vines should turn the team’s fortunes around. Will it transform them from worst to first? Perhaps not, but the value remains as odds are starting to adjust as the team begins its first season under head coach Chris Armas.

Colorado has had some good results recently, with a win over LAFC and a tie at Miami. Their price has been more volatile than other teams, but early on, they are still a big gamble.

Toronto FC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Lorenzo Insigne

Of all the longshots, this may be the one with the highest value, and you might want to push the button on TFC before they take off later in the year. The potential is big with ex-Serie A star Lorenzo Insigne if he consistently regains his top form and one worthy of being the second-highest-paid player behind Messi. The drama under former coach Bob Bradley is no longer there, and former Canada men’s national team manager John Herdman may be the man for the job.

This Toronto team would likely be among the favorites if not for last season’s downward spiral. The talent exists in their Italian duo, and this may be the Reds’ comeback season. This would be one to circle as a longshot with an actual shot to surprise.

Austin FC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Sebastian Driussi , Diego Rubio

Austin has yet to get its first win, but the good news is that Sebastian Driussi finally got his first goals of the season. The former MLS MVP candidate had a standout year in 2022, and if he can reclaim that form, the VERDE will be in business. The team still needs another reliable goalscorer, and perhaps Diego Rubio can fit that need with Driussi back on the field.

FC Dallas MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Jesus Ferreira

The Hunts have won multiple Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs, but in MLS, FC Dallas has yet to win anything besides the moniker of having the league’s best youth setup. The addition of former Benfica forward Petar Musa is supposed to show investment from ownership, but will he be the final piece to catapult a roster that has untapped potential with USMNT forward Jesus Ferreira, rising winger Bernard Kamungo, and playmaker (currently injured) Alan Velasco?

New England Revolution MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Carles Gil , Giacomo Vrioni

After mysterious in-season drama surrounding previous coach Bruce Arena, New England is in its first season with former MLS Cup-winning coach Caleb Porter. Striker Gustavo Bou has left, but former MLS MVP Carles Gil remains.

Wingers Tomas Chancalay, Dylan Borrero, and midfielder Noel Buck are a few young players to be excited about. It’s a bit of a rebuilding project in New England, but there’s potential.

San Jose Earthquakes MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Western Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Jeremy Ebobisse

Rising star Cade Cowell was sold to Mexican club Guadalajara, and suddenly, the Earthquakes’ future is much less optimistic. Second-year coach Luchi Gonzalez will be tasked with finding the next gem in the SJ academy because the MLS vets on the team may not be enough to help this team throughout the entire season. Lately, they look more like an underachieving team than a promising longshot.

Chicago Fire FC MLS Odds — Best Available:

  • To Reach the Final:
  • To Win Eastern Conference:
  • To Win Golden Boot: Xherdan Shaqiri

The Chicago Fire acquired Kellyn Acosta, an essential addition to its midfield. Part of the US National Team’s championship success and in MLS with LAFC, perhaps this could be the type of addition that transforms the Fire into a playoff team and Eastern Conference contender. It has already resulted in one of the goals of the season and a stoppage-time victory.

Up top, the club counts on a former prolific scorer in ex-Bayern and Liverpool forward Xherdan Shaqiri if he can live up to the $7 million plus he earns annually. Shaqiri has yet to be consistently spectacular, and the Fire isn’t going very far that way.

Additional Soccer Betting Odds

MLS Odds: Miami’s Messi, Suarez Are Golden Boot Favorites

Lionel Messi crushed the competition during the Leagues Cup last summer, a joint tournament between MLS and Liga MX, and was only kept from doing the same in league play due to injury. Now he’s expected to pick up where he left off as Inter Miami are expected to score goals in bunches.

Could Messi shift more to an assist man this season? Luis Suarez was the top scorer in La Liga once with Messi as his teammate and provider. That could certainly turn out to be the case in South Florida, and it would be the best value for someone who could outscore the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner. Of course, that depends on whether Suarez can stay healthy and how many minutes he’s managed to play.

Cucho Hernandez will have his say in the Golden Boot race after leading Columbus to an MLS Cup title with 16 regular season goals and five more in the playoffs.

Atlanta fans will want to back their guy Georgios Giakoumakis and the Greek forward showed the talent with 17 goals in 2023, tied with league MVP Luciano Acosta  of FC Cincinnati.

Denis Bouanga won last year’s Golden Boot with 20 goals but scored 37 for LAFC across all competitions. He certainly can repeat if he goes on a hot streak.

NY Red Bulls goalscorer Lewis Morgan and RSL striker Cristian “Chicho” Arango lead the current race with six goals apiece. After that, it’s a four-way tie between DC United’s Christian Benteke , LA Galaxy striker Dejan Joveljic , Giakoumakis, and Suarez. Other names to keep in mind are FC Dallas forward Jesus Ferreira , SKC man Alan Pulido , and Seattle’s Raul Ruidiaz .
