2022 US Open betting odds are available, and Rory McIlroy finds himself atop the oddsboard at DraftKings.

McIlroy, who is coming off a win in the Canadian Open, was the +1000 betting favorite as of Tuesday morning.

The 2022 US Open begins Thursday at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. This tournament and the other three majors–the Masters, PGA Championship, and the Open Championship–attract more betting money than standard PGA Tour events.

Be sure to check the current sign-up bonuses at DraftKings, BetMGM, FanDuel, Caesars Sportsbook, BetRivers, and PointsBet before betting on the US Open. All of these top-flight sportsbooks offer superior sports betting apps and competitive odds on the US Open.

2022 US Open Contenders

Scottie Scheffler won The Masters and Justin Thomas prevailed at the PGA Championship in major tournament action so far this year.

Here are the top-10 US Open betting favorites at DraftKings as of Tuesday:

PlayerDraftKings US Open Betting Odds

Scottie Scheffler+1400
Xander Schauffele+1600
Patrick Cantlay+2000
Cameron Smith+2200
Dustin Johnson+2800
Jordan Spieth+2800
Collin Morikawa+3000

Golf bettors should keep an eye on these DraftKings odds — and those at other sportsbooks — in the days leading up to the US Open. It always pays to shop around for the best odds on your golf bets.

The golf world has been in a state of upheaval heading into the US Open. Multiple players have left the PGA Tour to compete in the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Invitational Series. Major defectors included Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson. But those players are still eligible to compete in the US Open after the USGA announced its decision on June 7.

In other news, Tiger Woods is out for this year’s US Open. The 15-time major champion made the cut at both The Masters and PGA Championship, but he struggled over both weekends and had to withdraw before the final round of the PGA. Woods needed more recovery time, and he has already committed to play in the Open Championship at St. Andrews next month.

Collin Morikawa was leading the betting handle in advanced US Open wagering at BetMGM at 12.2% of the action. One punter made a $4,000 win bet on Tommy Fleetwood at +6600 that will cash a $264,000 ticket if Fleetwood lands his first major tournament championship.

Major slayer Brooks Koepka has eight career wins on the PGA Tour and half of them have come in major tournaments. He won consecutive US Opens in 2017 and 2018, and finished T-4 last year. But Koepka has struggled in 2022’s marquee events thus far. He missed the cut at The Masters and finished T-55 at the PGA Championship.

There are two key data points when handicapping a US Open. First, the player’s current form must be taken into account. How has he fared in recent events? Is he stringing together top-10 finishes? Or is he missing cuts and finishing in the back of the pack? A player’s past performances at the golf course hosting that year’s tournament is also important to research.

US Open Betting Analysis & Predictions

The task of picking an outright winner for any golf tournament has been likened to finding a toothpick in a lumberyard. But it’s always fun to try and identify a player at longer odds who has the pedigree to perform well in the US Open. One longshot we like in this year’s tournament is Louis Oosthuizen. He’s +7500 to win at FanDuel.

Prop bets provide are another way to profit on the US Open. Gaming Today golf analyst Bill Bowman likes value plays on young guns Will Zalatoris and Matt Fitzpatrick. We’re tailing him on both. Zalatoris lost in the PGA Championship after a playoff with Justin Thomas in his last major tournament appearance. We’re taking Zalatoris at +300 to win in a five-player matchup at DraftKings that includes Collin Morikawa (+300), Viktor Hovland (+330), Sam Burns (+330) and Daniel Berger (+330). Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick fired a 64 in the opening round of the PGA Tour’s Canadian Open last week. We like the young Englishman’s chance to duplicate that early success and be in the top 10 after the first round of the US Open. He was being offered at +500 at DraftKings.

If you want to be bold, fade Jon Rahm and bet him to miss the cut at the US Open. Yes, Rahm is the defending champion and likely will make the weekend. But Rahm hasn’t done much of anything in majors this year, finishing T-27 at The Masters and T-48 at the PGA Championship. If that downward trajectory were to continue, the contrarian bet at DraftKings on Rahm to miss the cut at +400 could be in play.

Lastly, we’re looking at the nationality of the 2022 US Open winner. DraftKings was offering +140 on American, +225 on European, and +1200 on Asian. Given Rory McIlroy’s incredible form coming into the US Open, the lean here goes to European at +225.

The Best Sportsbooks For Betting On The US Open

We repeat: Shop around. Betting odds can vary from sportsbook to sportsbook, especially when you’re months away from a major golf tournament.

When you’re searching for a sportsbook, make sure it is legal in your state or an adjoining state if you’re close to the border. You don’t typically have to be a resident of a certain state to register for a sportsbook account. You just need to be in the state when you place a bet. You can check out the legal status of sports betting in your state here

Another important thing to consider is the current bonus offer for new users at different sportsbooks. These come in the form of matching deposits and risk-free bets. Take advantage of these offers as they’re an easy and effective way to build your bankroll.

How To Bet On The US Open

Betting on golf is different from betting on baseball, football, and other team sports. It’s one player competing against the rest of the field. There can be as many as 156 players in a major tournament.

As mentioned, formulating picks on a winner involves examining a player’s current form and his past performances in the US Open and the host course this year. Weather can also play a part, too. Check the upcoming weather forecast for heavy winds and rain.

US Open Live Betting

Live betting has increased in overall popularity, and it’s no different with golf. Most sportsbooks offer live betting during all four days of the US Open.

The key to live betting on golf is to get a player at favorable odds. Let’s say, for example, that Jon Rahm comes out of the gate slow in the US Open. His live odds will be higher. Instead of being the favorite at +900 before the event, Rahm’s odds dropped to +2000 after the first round.

He’s five shots in back of the leader, but there’s three full days remaining in the US Open and you think he’ll bounce back. This represents a good chance to bet a great player who could still be in the mix for a win on Sunday.

Conversely, if you like the leader and want to bet him when leading by five strokes, you’ll have to pay for the privilege. His live odds could be -200, meaning you’d have to bet $200 to win $100.

US Open Prop Bets

The US Open also offers a wide variety of prop bets. Proposition bets, more commonly known as prop bets, aren’t tied directly to the outcome of the US Open. You can bet on such things like “will there be a hole-in-one?” or “will there be a playoff?” There are also head-to-head matchup bets where you’ll wager on one player to beat the other. Majors are also known to feature a full menu of props not typically available for a standard PGA Tour event. One example of this is the betting market for top finishers by country. You can wager on the best performance by an American, Australian, and Canadian, etc.

What Affects US Open Odds?

Oddsmakers have their work cut out for them when setting the betting odds for a major tournament. Each player’s current form is a critical piece of the puzzle. But there are so many other factors to consider based on the golf course. What type of putting greens will players have to navigate? Bentgrass or poa annua? Does the course favor longer hitters who can regularly bomb long drives off the tee? If a player has or hasn’t enjoyed success at the host venue for the US Open, this will also weigh heavily into his betting odds.
