When it comes to betting on PGA tour events, one of the most popular is betting on the US Open. Most sportsbook apps will offer US Open betting odds and various ways to be on the tournament.

The US Open is the third major tournament of the PGA season. This tournament, along with the other three majors–the Masters, PGA Championship, and the Open Championship–bring more bettors to the windows than most other Tour weekly events.

Along with the sportsbooks in the casinos, legal online sportsbook apps carry golf odds for the majors as well as the rest of the Tour’s events. But it’s important to scout out which sportsbook or app works best for you as the numbers will vary.

For the 2021 US Open odds, Bryson DeChambeau, the defending champion, isn’t the favorite at FanDuel. He’s at +1200 along with Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas.

This year’s favorite is Jon Rahm at +1100.

Golf bettors need to check the odds at their favorite sportsbooks quickly as the event will be upon us next week. As the saying goes, time is money.

As of early June 2021, the betting is varied depending on which sportsbook you’re checking out.

Rahm is the top dog at FanDuel at +1100 but at BetMGM, it’s Dustin Johnson at +1200. Over at DraftKings, it’s Johnson but he’s only at +1000.

There are a lot of different choices depending on your sportsbook of choice. And remember, there’s no law against having accounts at multiple sportsbooks to give yourself more choices when it comes to the numbers out there.

US Open 2021 Favorites

Now, back to the favorites. With a star-studded field and four days of play, it usually comes down to momentum: who’s playing the best coming into the event and who has had success in the event in the past. Check out past results and take it from there.

We can lead you in a good direction to start, and that direction would lead to a guy named Brooks Koepka. He should be considered by everyone for the simple fact he lives for majors and has plenty of success with them.

Koepka has eight career wins on his resume and four of those are majors. There’s more. He won back-to-back US Opens (2017 and 2018) as well as back-to-back PGA Championships (2018 and 2019). That type of run in the majors has to have Koepka and bettors alike checking out his win odds as well as a few of the prop bets where he may show up.

If you’re looking for a longshot, check out Xander Schauffele at +2200 at BetMGM. He’s never won a major and has eight runner-up finishes since his last Tour win. Maybe it’s time to snap both of those streaks.

The Best Sportsbooks For Betting On The US Open

Shop around. It’s that simple. The numbers vary from site to site and from day to day. It’s up to you–the bettor–to keep an eye out and jump on a number you like.

Start your venture by checking which sportsbooks you can legally bet with from wherever you call home. That’s the top priority. Check out the status of sports betting in your state here

Then there are the numbers. A player at “Book A” may be +1000 and that same player may be +1400 at “Book B.” Betting is just like buying an appliance for your home or even a car: shop around for the best pricing.

Also, some sportsbooks offer incentives to sign up for their services. Be sure to read the fine print, but these offers can definitely add to your bankroll in the form of extra site credit in your account.

How To Bet On The US Open

Betting on golf is different from betting on baseballfootball, and other major sports. First and foremost, it isn’t a team sport; there isn’t a “Team A” or a “Team B.” It’s one player against the rest of the field. In some instances, it’s a full field of 144 players.

In the US Open, there’s a who’s who of possible winners. That’s because everyone wants a major on their resume. That ups the pressure and the reward. In 2020, DeChambeau pocketed more than $2.2 million for his win.

As with any sport, picking a winner relies on a variety of factors. Start with the player’s form coming into the event, add in the course layout, the weather, and the fact that it’s a major and there’s a lot to this formula.

US Open Live Betting

Like other sports, many sportsbooks offer live betting during the entire four days. Live betting in golf can be tricky. If a player has a five-shot lead, bettors are looking at a huge minus when it comes to picking that player to win. On the other hand, just about everyone else will be a nice plus. It’s all about momentum and who has it.

Remember, the later in the round you’re looking to bet, the wider the discrepancy in money. If a player has a four-shot lead with just a few holes left on Sunday, he will be a huge favorite. On the other hand, if it’s a horse race down to the wire, the odds will reflect more players having a chance to win and give bettors better odds for their favorite player, especially if he’s a shot or two behind.

US Open Prop Bets

The US Open not only offers odds for players to win but there will also be prop bets aplenty. Whether it’s betting on “a hole-in-one” or “will there be a playoff” or “will the winner come from the last group,” there’s a side wager or two that will interest bettors. One note: Don’t forget to check out and bet on these props before the first player tees off in the tournament. Once that opening tee shot is hit, the props are gone.

Most sportsbooks won’t allow parlays on prop bets so if you’ve got a prop you like that is -200 (or worse), it’s going to cost you a little extra for a good return on your bet.

US Open Betting Odds

From the favorites to the last guy in the field, US Open betting features everything from favorites odds (the favorites are around +1000) to the longest of long shots.

The odds change early and they change often. If a guy wins an event leading up to an event like the US Open, look for his number to drop—or it has already dropped as you read this. It’s just the opposite if his game is struggling. His number will rise and be a nice payoff if he can get his game back in top form.

If you see a number that fits you, get it while you can.

What Affects US Open Odds

Setting the odds, especially in a major, is painstaking work. Bookmakers take everything into account. From a player’s recent tournament history to his performances in the event the bookmakers are setting the current lines on, these guys dig deep. Sportsbooks are looking for that perfect number that will attract bettors to take a chance. But they also want to limit their liability.
