Down on luck? Think Jordan

Dec 28, 2004 5:12 AM

Happy New Year to everyone and I wish everyone a healthy and prosperous 2005. Wow, I just can’t believe 2005 is here. It’s even hard for me to say. Seems like yesterday that everyone was all worried about Y2K.

If 2004 was not a good year for you, I just want to pass on this little quote. "I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career, I’ve lost more than 300 games, and 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. Throughout my life and career I’ve failed, and failed again. And, that’s why I succeed," Michael Jordan.

So don’t let any failed attempts deter you. Just move forward in the upcoming year, keep striving for success and you will get there. Now, let’s see if we can end strong and start 2005 with some winners in the upcoming bowl games.

Tuesday, Dec. 28

Miami, O -2½ vs Iowa St (51): I’m not sure they have the correct favorite. As much as I respect the MAC, the Redhawks just haven’t played the schedule the Cyclones have. Iowa State would have won their last five if it weren’t for some real conservative coaching and a missed field goal at the end of the Missouri game. Money line looks good. IOWA ST, UNDER.

Oregon St -3½ vs N.Dame (50): Not real sure what kind of mood the Irish will be in for this game, but I’m sure they will come to play. The Beavers ended the season going 5-1 SU and 6-1 ATS. Their only loss was to USC, 28-20. The Irish were 1-3 in their last four. OREGON ST.

Wednesday, Dec. 29

Colorado -3 vs UTEP (58½): El Paso had a super year, but there were some close calls. UTEP barely got by Rice 35-28 in OT and then lost the final game 37-35 to Tulsa. Colorado won and covered its last three regular season games before losing the Big 12 title matchup to Oklahoma. The Buffaloes have a definite edge in class. COLORADO.

Ohio St +3½ vs Okla St (49): The Bookmakers have adjusted the line with the suspension of the starting Ohio State QB. I think they have done Buckeyes backers a favor. The Buckeyes will get the money in San Antonio. This looks to be a very good money line bet. Look for the Ohio State defense to come out smoking and shut down the Cowboys running game early in a straight up win. OHIO ST.

Thursday, Dec. 30

Boston Col +2½ vs UNC (51½): North Carolina really improved as the season progressed, finishing 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS. The Heels’ only loss was to Virginia Tech, 27-24. UNC.

Navy +2½ vs N. Mexico (42): The Lobos beat Wyoming to end the season and should stop Navy’s ground game. NEW MEXICO.

Tx. Tech +11½ vs Cal (65): Looks like way too many points. Tech can light up the scoreboard. TEXAS TECH.

Troy State PK vs No. Illinois (47): Really not interested in betting on this game. But, if someone puts a gun to my head”¦ UNDER.

Friday, Dec. 31

Minnesota +3 vs Alabama (48½): The Tide ecstatic to be back playing a bowl game and give big time effort to get the win. Minnesota 0-3 SU/ATS in last three games. ALABAMA.

Arizona St +7½ vs Purdue (55): Arizona State finished the season 1-5 ATS while the Boilermakers won and covered their final two games. PURDUE, OVER.

Boise St +12½ vs Louisville (81): I won’t be betting this game under 81. Just can’t find a reason to buck the Cardinals, who went 10-1 SU and ATS. LOUISVILLE.

Florida +3 vs Miami FL (52½): Just love the way the Gators played the last three games, going 3-0 SU and ATS showing great defense. FLORIDA, UNDER.

Saturday, Jan 1, 2005

Wisconsin +7 vs Georgia (40½): The Georgia "D" will shut down the Wisky, which got just 7 against Iowa. GEORGIA.

Tenn +3 vs Texas A&M (55½): Aggies in Dallas and only giving up a field goal. TEXAS A&M.

W. Va +8 vs Florida St (46): Not many teams that can play defense like the Seminoles, who saw their last seven games go below the posted total. Not many covers between either team. UNDER.

Iowa +6½ vs LSU (42): This is one of my better bets in the bowls. I just love the dog, the points and money line. IOWA.

Texas -6 vs Michigan (53): Longhorns are the better team, but just can’t go against Michigan in the Rose Bowl. This looks to be high scoring, with the team that gets the ball last winning the game. MICHIGAN, OVER.

Pitt +16½ vs Utah (67): Just don’t see much defense in this game in Tempe. OVER.

Monday, Jan. 3

Va. Tech +6½ vs Auburn (44½): If the Tigers win this game, they will definitely say they are No. 1, but will never get the chance to prove it against the winner of the Oklahoma/USC game to be played Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Both teams have great defenses and will be fired up. Look for the offenses to start off slow. The first half looks like a very good bet. UNDER 22½.

Last week: 3-2

Postseason: 4-2
