Spot-less effort good for title

For the second time in three years, the Barbary Coast’s Johnny Spot captured the GamingToday Bookies Battle competition.

"Never a doubt," quipped Spot, who put the capper on an 11-5 week with a victory in the Giants-Cowboys game Sunday night that clinched the championship. "The Giants cost me a larger wager in over/under season wins, but that’s gambling."

Spot, the 2002 GT champ, edged Hugh Ledford (Palace Station) and Will French (California) by two games.

The consensus group of 65 elite handicappers were 148-108 for the season, a 57.8 percent clip. — Mark Mayer
