Seek your Fortune on the east side

Hidden in the heart of Henderson lies an isolated casino called Club Fortune. It sits at 725 S. Racetrack Rd. just one block east of Boulder Highway. Even though distant from the Las Vegas Strip, Club Fortune still has a Las Vegas atmosphere.

Keeping the big casino theme, Club Fortune offers a wide variety of slot machines in numerous denominations. I found myself constantly surrounded by the mighty-popular penny slots. Not to mention, there was no lack of people playing them. Poker and keno machines were also easy to find in different variations.

A favorite at Club Fortune is its selection of table games. In the center of the casino are six blackjack tables, along with a roulette table. Nearby you’ll find a secluded section for Hold’em poker games.

The Hold’em tables are usually saturated at night and on the weekends. Against the wall, but not hard to find, are the Club Fortune sports book and keno room. The keno room, unlike the sports book, looked more like a ballroom than a place to bet keno. Being inside this petite casino, you would not expect to walk into such a cavernous keno room that could easily seat from 200 to 300 people. The sports book, on the other hand, does not even have a place to sit — it has that ”˜bet and run’ feeling.

Feeling thirsty? The first thing you hit when you walk into this casino is, of course, the bar. This is quite a decent bar for such a diminutive casino, and it hosts a stage with live music and a Wednesday special that offers any beer for a buck!

Food specials are always a plus, and Club Fortune didn’t forget to leave them out of the mix. They offer two places to dine, a small deli and the Club Fortune restaurant. The deli has $1 lunch specials on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with a daily $3.95 meal that is a random pick by the chef. While the Fortune restaurant hosts similar specials on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, they also have a burger, fries and drink combo for $2.50, daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Regulars at this casino can rack up their player’s points to purchase items from the Fortune prize counter, free play or a free meal, if you want to call it ”˜free’.

If you find yourself on the southeast side of town, do as the locals do, give Club Fortune a try, as long as you don’t mind the drive home.
