Many facets of Las Vegas history are showcased in the Special Collection Library at UNLV, ranging from Dean Martin memorabilia to the neon construction of Vegas Vic. Its newest additions recently came from television pioneer and local resident Robin Leach when he donated more than 400 tapes from his Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous television show. Library director Peter Michel said that "this could be considered a documentation of popular culture." Lifestyles delved into the lives of the rich and famous long before MTV or the E! network probed into celebrity’s lives.

We have a winner! This time it’s a local model and Web designer by the name of Alicia Hall and you can see her in all her glory in the current — and I hear prestigious — Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. She also nabbed a million dollar contract with NEXT Model Management. The 19 year-old claims she’s had "a desire to appear" in the swimsuit issue since she was a kid. She was discovered and trained by Kim Flowers’ John Robert Powers modeling school.

The question always seemingly being asked around town is "How many Cirque du Soleil shows are too many?" At least the Cirque shows are at different venues. The scuttlebutt I’m hearing is that one of the numerous headliners at an off-Strip hotel is knock, knock, knocking on its’ president’s door complaining that they aren’t being treated like family.

As your GamingToday man about town, sometimes I have to get out of town to recharge the batteries. So it was off to Miami and New York for a few days to reconnect with old friends and to forget the local hectic pace. So what happens? Everyone wants to know about the New Las Vegas. I got more freebies because everyone wanted to hear what Ambassador Monti had to say. It was non-stop talk and running. I need a vacation. Maybe a couple of days in Mesquite?

While Lani Misalucha, one the best singers in town, continues to be part of the Society of Seven’s afternoon show at Bally’s, her dream of becoming an American headliner is being taken by fellow Filipina singer, Lea Salonga. Salonga is the voice that made Mulan a convincing warrior and Jasmine a believable princess for Disney. She is stepping out on her own and began a major concert tour this last weekend. I’m hearing great things about her with a local date in the works.

Clear Channel Entertainment, one of the world’s leading producers of live entertainment and the company bringing "Phantom of the Opera" to the Venetian next year, has been signed to manage/book the Aladdin’s Theater for the Performing Arts (TPA) and a planned 1,500-seat showroom. The 7,000-seat TPA’s modernization and construction and construction of the showroom will begin shortly so that completion will coincide with the hotel’s name change to Planet Hollywood in late 2006. Other announcements due from the property include moving the Planet Hollywood retail store from the Forum Shops and the building of a television studio to house Robin Leach’s new Las Vegas television network.

The new book, "The Other Hollywood: The Uncensored Oral History of the Porn Film Industry" by Legs McNeil and Jennifer Osborne with Peter Pavia, deals with a couple of legitimate stars associated with Las Vegas. According to the New York Post, Tony Curtis frequented adult film sets and parities, and Sammy Davis Jr. had a fascination for one particular porn star.

The face of Caesars Palace star Elton John is gracing 20 AirTran jets to promote the Florida-based airlines launch of the XM Satellite Radio system at each passenger seat. Though the airline would not disclose details of the arrangement with John, a spokesman said it did plan to give him a six-foot-long jet model and a $50,000 check for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
