THIS WEEK’S NCAA COLLEGE BASKETBALL SELECTIONS

Feb 22, 2005 4:35 AM

When Air Force led nationally ranked Utah at halftime, we had visions of 6-0 in our head. Sadly, the Force wasn’t with us in the final 20 minutes and we lost.

Providence has to be the poster boy for bad luck this season. The Friars are 1-11 SU in the Big East with eight of the losses by five points or less. And, this is with a preseason first team All-American power forward Ryan Gomes.

Some conferences begin their tournaments next week. Where has this season gone?

Iowa St at Tex A&M (tues): ISU on huge high after knocking off Kansas in Lawrence, but we smell trouble in Aggieland. A&M.

Duke at GT (wed): The Dukies have dropped three straight road games in ACC. Make it four. GT.

Stanford at Oregon St (thur): Host Beavers have covered last four and in revenge mode from earlier loss at Stanford. ORE ST.

La Tech at UTEP (fri): Miners lost first matchup at La Tech and are off tough defeat to Pacific. Double-trouble for Tech. UTEP.

Providence at Syracuse (sat): Guaranteed to be close. We’ll take the points in Boeheimville. PC.

Last week: 5-1.

Season: 30-22 (57.7%).
