Vegas bulks up on baseball props

If the Plaza / Las Vegas Club is right, 26 of the 30 major league baseball teams will win less than 90 games this season.

"We’re just trying to create some excitement," said Mike Colbert, race and sports director at the Plaza. "We wanted to get our baseball props out before anyone else in Las Vegas, along with provide a -105 betting line all the way through the NCAA college basketball tournament."

The bold moves at Plaza and its satellite Las Vegas Club is part of the master plan than began when Barrick acquired the two properties, hired Lou D’Amico to oversee the race and sports operations and invested thousands of dollars to upgrade the book.

"We’ve had a nice response to our props, particularly involving the Yankees and Red Sox," Colbert said. "Our action is getting better and better with the new book.Nobody has regular season baseball wins up so far. Betting them pretty good. I know one who bet the Yanks under 103.

Oh, by the way, those four teams are the New York Yankees (103), Boston Red Sox (94½), St. Louis Cardinals (94) and Anaheim Angels (91).

The Plaza brass feels the National League West will be a battle to the end, with just two wins separating three teams. San Francisco is the leader with "over / under" 86½ wins, followed by San Diego (85½) and Los Angeles (84½).

"We opened the Dodgers at 86, but went down to 84½ when the early action was for the ”˜under’ prop," Colbert said.

Plaza has the Atlanta Braves tops again in the National League East and St. Louis heading the Central. The Washington Nationals (formerly known as the Montreal Expos) are lowest at 67.

The Minnesota Twins again lead the American League Central with a projected 89½ win total. The Angels have a whopping 9½-game edge on Seattle in the West.

The Plaza and Las Vegas Club will accept parlay betting, provided the "over / under" team selections are not from the same division. In other words, bets involving the Yanks and Red Sox as a parlay will not be allowed. A Seattle and New York Mets parlay would.

"We’ll take up to six teams in a parlay," Colbert said. "And, we definitely encourage our customers to take advantage of being able to get -105 all the way through March Madness."

One of the more popular college basketball props involve top-ranked Illinois and North Carolina. Carolina is -120 and the Illini -110 regarding which teams advances further in the NCAA tournament.

There are similar matchups on the board involving Utah and Washington, along with Pitt against Michigan State.
