IGT announced last week that Megabucks Video Slots, an all-new penny denomination wide-area-progressive with a top jackpot beginning at $10 million, will soon be joining the original $1 Megabucks in Nevada.

In Las Vegas, Boyd Gaming, which last year acquired Coast Casinos, will be the first to offer the new game in their casinos during the month of March; the game will debut in other Nevada casinos in April.

"Next year, 2006, will be the 20th anniversary of the original Megabucks and, while it is truly the granddaddy of the multi-million-dollar progressive jackpots, we felt it was time to introduce a penny version of Megabucks," said Ed Rogich, vice president of marketing for IGT.

Rogich added that releasing the game in the penny denomination with such a large top jackpot will catapult the Megabucks brand to the forefront of the industry’s leading trend: penny slots with million-dollar awards.

"No other penny game even comes close to offering a $10 million award and when the new penny Megabucks slot hits, it will definitely be one for the record books," Rogich said.

The current world record penny jackpot is $2,065,000 won on IGT’s The Twilight Zone video slots at a California casino.

The first casinos to offer the new penny Megabucks include: Barbary Coast, California Hotel, Eldorado Casino, Fremont Hotel, Gold Coast Hotel, Jokers Wild, Main Street Station, The Orleans, Sam’s Town, Stardust and Suncoast.

As with all MegaJackpots linked games, the maximum bet is required to win the top jackpot. In the case of Megabucks Video Slots, which is a 5-reel, 60-line game, the total bet would be $3.

In addition to the top progressive award, the new Megabucks features two bonus games that offer players a chance to accumulate additional credits: the Mega Match Bonus and the Pick-A-Buck Bonus.

When three Mega Match Bonus symbols land on a played line, the screen changes to a grid of squares that hide five sets of symbols plus a 2x and 5x multiplier. Once a player uncovers three matching symbols, the bonus game calculates the win based on the number of coins bet per line, the number of lines played and any multipliers uncovered during play.

The Pick-A-Buck Bonus is initiated when three or more dollar sign symbols land in any position on the reels. The more symbols, the larger the range of pays. To complete the bonus round, players select one of the dollar symbols to reveal a credit amount.

Like its big brother, Megabucks penny slots’ top jackpots are paid in annual installments upon verification of win.
