The Cannery Casino & Hotel will break ground this week on the second phase of its $40 million expansion.

The phase two facilities, which are expected to open in about 12 months, will include a new Italian restaurant, poker room, race and sports book, multi-purpose room, management offices and multi-screen movie theater.

The first phase consists of a 1,903-space parking garage, which opened last week, and 15,000 square feet of casino space, which will be unveiled in about two weeks.

"We are very pleased to provide convenient covered parking with direct access into the casino for our guests," said Frank Vignola, hotel general manager. "The expanded casino area will help us insure that our guests can always play their favorite slots."

The expansion increases the casino floor by 35 percent and adds more than 500 new slot and video poker machines. The new games will range in denominations from one cent to one dollar, and includes such hot slots as Star Wars, One Cent Megabucks, Fort Knox, Three Way Action Poker and Multi-Card Keno, to name a few.

Phase two of the expansion will add nearly 100,000 square feet to the casino. New facilities will include:

”¡ Galaxy movie theaters: 14 screens with more than 3,500 seats.

”¡ Vino’s Italian Restaurant: in addition to seating for 150 patrons, there will be a walk-up deli for pizza, sandwiches and other quick-fix foods.

”¡ Multi-purpose room: this banquet hall will handle up to 300 people for weddings, meetings and the like.

”¡ Poker room: A total of 14 tables will offer low- and medium-limit Texas hold ”˜em, Omaha and Seven Card Stud.

”¡ Race and sports book: The new book will be decorated with Cannery-themed art and murals from the 1940s, and will feature state-of-the-art electronic boards, 60-inch center screen, 13 oversized LCD TV screens and 100 individual, 13-inch flat screens for horse players.

"We look forward to the exciting amenities that we will be able to offer our guests once phase two is completed," said Vignola, who added that the opening date for the phase two expansion is in the first quarter of 2006.

Cannery Casino is in North Las Vegas at the corner of Craig and Losee roads.
