For two decades, Peter George led the English gambling company, Ladbroke. But, in the past year, with the company moving out of the gambling business to concentrate on its hotel business under the name of Hilton Group, George came under pressure.
Last month, George stepped aside and was replaced by David Michels, whose expertise was in the hotel business. The company announced that George had resigned on his own. "There was no ousting and no row," said a spokesman.
Now, however, comes word that George received a severance of £3 million, roughly $4.26 million American. The amount has raised a lot of eyebrows among stockholders who now believe that George was bought out of his position. He reportedly has married an American woman and is planning to make his home in this country.
