True to its pledge of several months ago, Barrick Gaming has announced plans to develop entertainment offerings designed to appeal to Las Vegas’ vast Hispanic community.

The first phase of Barrick’s plans will be implemented at the Plaza Hotel and Casino with unique nightlife, sports betting and food and beverage offerings.

The company will also host a series of community events in order to broaden the scope of Barrick’s commitment to Las Vegas Latinos.

"The Hispanic community is the fastest growing sector of residents in Las Vegas," said Stephen Crystal, president and co-founder of Barrick Gaming. "Right now the scope of entertainment offerings is limited for the many cultures and origins of Hispanics; and we are looking forward to broadening our plans to appeal to this audience."

The first phase of the initiative will be completed at the Plaza’s race and sports book later this month, when soccer games will become a prominent component of viewing and wagering options.

The second initiative will be a nightlife event at the Plaza’s glass-domed Center Stage featuring DJs and live music playing an array of music from salsa to Latin pop. The fiesta will be called "Escandalos" and will be held every Saturday night.

Barrick Gaming will also continue to host "Planet Energy" events with Super Estrella on a monthly basis at the Plaza’s rooftop pool deck during the warmer months as they initiated last summer. The first event will be held in May.

Other initiatives, such as a new gaming pit with Hispanic themed slot machines, a selection of snacks for sports bettors including Cuban sandwiches, green chile and other traditional selections, Spanish speaking blackjack dealers, and boxing and other sporting events are planned to launch this spring.

Plans are also being formulated that would convert Barrick’s Western Hotel on Fremont Street to an all-Hispanic hotel-casino.

Additionally, Barrick will support community organizations such as the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce, The Citizens Group Project, the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Latino Coalition and MAPA (Mexican American Political Association), for which Barrick will host their awards dinner on June 3.

Barrick Gaming is now working on long range plans to broaden its range of offerings for the Hispanic community including the development of a player’s club, complete with entertainment offerings, paycheck cashing programs and a Spanish language website.

The company is also developing plans for an entire hotel-casino themed with Hispanic cultural entertainment, food and beverage, and wagering offerings.

Barrick Gaming (www.barrickgamingcorp.com) was founded by Crystal and his partner, D.W. Barrick, to redevelop and build multi-jurisdictional gaming and entertainment properties. The company purchased the Plaza, Las Vegas Club, Western and Gold Spike hotel-casinos in March 2004 as the first step in the company’s strategy to redevelop and build new gaming and entertainment properties.
