The World Poker Tour kicked off its 2005-2006 season at The Mirage on May 9, with its championship event scheduled for May 23-27. The final table will be filmed for broadcast on the Travel Channel.
The championship event, The Mirage Poker Showdown, requires a $10,000 buy-in.
Players can also gain entry by winning one of the satellite tournaments held this week.
Other notable poker events include a $3,000 no limit hold’em event scheduled for Friday, and a $1,500 super satellite tourney to take place on Sunday.
"We look forward to hosting The Mirage Poker Showdown for the second consecutive year," said Scott Sibella, president and chief operating officer for The Mirage. "We anticipate another successful event and are excited to kick off the fourth season of the World Poker Tour."
Last year, The Mirage Poker Showdown attracted 281 players who generated a prize pool of more than $2.7 million. Eli Alezra of Henderson won the first place award of $1,024,574. Officials expect the numbers to increase this year.
"We are very excited to be kicking off our season four at The Mirage," said Steve Lipscomb, president and CEO of the WPT. "The excitement and energy of this casino helps to set the tone for the entire season. We always look forward to being here."
