Take a bargain bite out of Shark Reef

Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay celebrates its fifth anniversary this summer with a celebration that could only be found at North America’s only predator-based aquarium. Since its debut, Shark Reef has become a must-see attraction, where adults and children alike flock to get up close and personal with more than 2,000 divinely dangerous animals that include sharks, rare golden crocodiles, sawfish, eels and piranhas.

To celebrate this unique attraction, the following special promotions will be available this summer:

June 24-27: All Shark Reef visitors will receive special commemorative giveaways.

June 27: All guests will be admitted for $5.

June 28-August 31: After 5 p.m., receive one $5 admission ticket for each regular adult ticket purchased.

Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is open daily, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The last entry of each day is permitted no later than 10 p.m. Regular ticket prices are $15.95 for adults and $9.95 for children; children four and under are free. Discounts are available for Nevada residents with proper identification.

If you’d rather have your fish on a plate than swimming in a tank, set sail for the Rampart Casino at the J.W Marriott in Summerlin this month. The Promenade Café is serving stuffed rainbow trout with blue crab stuffing, brown butter, a choice of potato and green bean almandine for only $12.95 plus tax. The special is available daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. through the month of June.

For a more elegant evening, Rampart’s upscale Carmel Room is offering Thai red sapper, grilled with braised Belgium endive, shaved fennel and yellow pepper coulis and basil sauce, filleted tableside for $24.95 per person. Reservations are recommended.

If you’re in need of a good laugh (and who among us isn’t?), check out the free comedy after dinner at Rampart’s Addison’s Lounge. Local celebrity Sandy Hackett (the son of the late Buddy Hackett) presents free comedy shows on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through the end of June. Shows begin at 8 p.m. each night.

Next door at the Suncoast Casino, landlubbers can enjoy Rib Eye Tuesdays at the St. Tropez Buffet. The new Tuesday night buffet features grilled rib eye steaks cooked to order and served with a draft beer for $12.95 per person, served from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
