Shuffle Master announced last week that it has finalized the purchase of "Bet the Set 21," a blackjack side bet from Magnum Gaming, Inc. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The side bet for blackjack, currently used on 205 blackjack tables throughout North America, rewards players when their first two cards contain a pair.

The acquisition adds to Shuffle Master’s side bet table games product portfolio that includes the popular licensed brands Fortune Pai Gow Poker, Royal Match and Dragon Bonus.

"We are pleased to add Bet the Set "21" to our table games product portfolio," said Paul C. Meyer, Shuffle Master president and chief operating officer. "Since its introduction in 1997, the game has grown in popularity and offers blackjack players an appealing side bet that increases their winning potential.

"We are confident that it will be a successful addition to our other table game offerings, and are pleased that with this acquisition we now have over 3,500 branded table games licensed throughout the world," Meyer said.

Here’s how the bet works: The player, if he chooses, places a Bet the Set 21 wager in addition to his regular bet. If his first two cards are a pair, he wins according to the paytable.

The top hand — a pair in the same suit — can pay as high as 25-1. And the value of the player’s hand is unaffected by the dealer’s hand, even if it’s a blackjack.

Here are the payoffs:

Single-deck:

Suited pair, 15-1

Double deck:

Pair, 10-1

Suited pair, 25-1

Four, six, eight decks:

Pair, 10-1

Suited pair, 15-1
