Women’s poker conference will be held at MGM

Over the past couple of years, the popularity of poker has skyrocketed, fueled in part by TV coverage of events like the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker.

One of the fastest growing segments of the poker-playing public is the distaff side — more and more women are finessing at the poker tables than ever before.

A case in point is this year’s World Series of Poker Ladies tournament, which attracted a record turnout of more than 600 entrants, a 300 percent increase in registrations over 2004.

Nevertheless, the number of women who play poker professionally is still a minority, comprising less than 5 percent of the total field of pro poker players.

For those women and the countless numbers who are interested in poker, the Women’s Poker Convention scheduled for Aug. 12-14 provides an opportunity for women to take their game to the next level by learning to improve their skills through the experiences shared by top players in the world of poker.

The goal of the convention is to empower women with necessary information to successfully challenge their opponents, and to emphasize the influence women have in the world of poker.

Hosted by poker author and player Lou Krieger, the keynote speaker is high-stakes player Jennifer Harman who holds a World Poker Tour title as well as two World Series of Poker bracelets.

The convention will also include presentations from world-class poker players such as, three time World Series of Poker champion Barbara Enright, two time World Series of Poker champion Susie Isaacs, noted poker writer Amy Calistri, and professional players Roxci Rhodes, Cat Hulbert and Lacey Jones.

The formal seminar presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and will close with a poker tournament where the champion will take home her share of the prize pool, along with a prize package including a publicity kit, professional photograph session, a profile in Woman Poker Player magazine, and a private tutoring session with a professional player.
