Feel comfortable with Pats in final preseason test

The final week of NFL preseason football. Just can’t shake mediocrity of late, but we’re taking notes for a big start in Week 1 when everything counts.

Thursday, Sept. 1

Jets +3 at Eagles (38½): I will side with the Jets "D" and take the points. JETS, UNDER.

Falcons +3 at Dolphins (36): Just can’t see Atlanta having any interest in this game. DOLPHINS, UNDER.

Texans +3½ at Bucs (37½): Don’t see much scoring. UNDER.

Browns +2½ at Bears (36½): Both teams have played hard and are 3-0 ATS in preseason. Look for each to come out aggressive. UNDER.

Giants +6½ at Patriots (39): Pats too deep and NY played its game last week. PATRIOTS.

Steelers +3 at Panthers (37½): Panthers have gone 0-2 since streak ended. UNDER.

Jaguars +4 at Cowboys (36½): I see little "O" in this one. UNDER.

Redskins +5 at Ravens (35): Baltimore revs up its "Big D" for season opener. UNDER.

Packers +6½ at Titans (40): Titan HC Fisher a perfectionist and the Pack are just old. TITANS

Saints +4½ at Raiders (41½): Raiders have gone 4-1 ATS in last five preseason tests. RAIDERS.

49ers +6 at Chargers (41): 49ers have gone 3-0 ATS. NINERS, UNDER.

Friday, Sept. 2

Lions (NL) at Bills: Lions a bad road team, dropping last five. BILLS.

Colts +3 at Bengals (43½): Colts have lost all four playing with a Swiss cheese defense. OVER.

Chiefs (NL) at Rams: No interest here. UNDER.

Broncos +4 at Cards (39½): We would have taken Cards as an underdog. BRONCOS.

Vikings +3 at Seahawks (43): We’ll take those points. VIKINGS.

Last week: 9-9

Preseason: 29-23-2

Before I get to the colleges, any sports fan had to love the final of the Little League World Series with Hawaii making a miraculous comeback to beat Curacao 7-6 with a game winning home run in extra innings. Now that was a real baseball game and a real joy to watch.

Now let’s get to the college games you can bet on, but may not enjoy as much.

Thursday, Sept. 1

Oregon -9 at Houston: I will take the points. Third year Houston QB Kolb is one cool cucumber. HOUSTON.

C.Florida +19 at S. Carolina: Good thing you can bet this game. If you aren’t a UCF or SC fan you just couldn’t watch this one. I guess I will give Spurrier a shot here and lay the wood. S.C.

Minnesota -15 at Tulsa: Coach Glen Mason’s Golden Gophers always start fast and this year will be no exception. Gophers have RB Maroney and maybe the best offensive line in the Big 10. Look for Minnesota to run it up against a very inexperienced Tulsa team. MINNESOTA.

Friday, Sept. 2

Arizona +9 at Utah: Look for the "Zona D" to keep it close and get the cover. ARIZONA.

Saturday, Sept. 3

Notre Dame +3½ at Pitt: Both teams starting new eras. Normally I would love ND with the points in this spot. Not in this case. PITT.

Boise St +7 at Georgia: Boise faces Georgia, Oregon State and Bowling Green. If somehow the Broncos could get by these three, they will get a perfect season. Highly unlikely, but I will take the TD and hope for the backdoor cover. BOISE.

Ga Tech +7 at Auburn: I see plenty of defense in this game as a very disgruntled Auburn takes GT to the bank. AUBURN.

Sunday, Sept. 4

Louisville -21½ at Kentucky: UK held on very well in last year’s 28-0 loss to arch rival Louisville. The "Ville" is loaded, but I will take the points in this battle and hope for the best. KENTUCKY.

Tulane +10 at So Miss: Green Wave can put some points on the board and may be able to stay close for the cover. TULANE.

Va Tech -5 at NC State: VT looks for revenge from last year’s 17-16 loss as a seven point favorite. VT.

Monday, Sept. 5

UNLV +14½ at New Mexico: The Lobos are 5-1 ATS in last six meetings, but have never been a 2-TD favorite. Don’t think they should be here. UNLV.

Ole Miss +2 at Memphis: Look for the visitors to get the W in this game. OLE MISS.

Miami, FL +3 at Florida St: Hurricane Miami storms into Florida State loaded as much as Katrina. Canes 6-1 ATS against State in last seven. MIAMI.
