Wrong script for Ohio State

Sep 13, 2005 2:19 AM

I’m still in mourning for Ohio State after giving the game away in the second half.

Well. things can only get better.

One good thing is my recommending bettors to take the Brewers ”˜over’ 69 season wins. Milwaukee is already there. Winners have to wait till the season ends before collecting. That should answer the e-mail questions. Also in baseball, the +1½ money continues to be a real good bet. It went 6-1 last week.

Now, for some college football.

Utah -2½ at TCU (46½): The Utes can play defense and put points on the scoreboard. TCU did beat a down Oklahoma team, but lost as a 15-point favorite to SMU 21-10! Defenses should dominate. UTAH, UNDER.

Houston +11½ at UTEP (63): C-USA shootout with both teams featuring top notch QB’s in Kolb (Houston) and Carson Palmer’s brother Jordon (UTEP). The Miners are talking undefeated season and will not let up once they get the lead. Lots of points here. UTEP, OVER.

Virginia -9 at Syracuse (44½): Virginia had the week off after opening facial win (31-19) over a Western Michigan bunch that were crushed by Toledo 56-23 this past week. Syracuse fell to West Virginia and blanked lowly Buffalo. At least, the Orange can play D and should stay close at the Carrier Dome. SYRACUSE, UNDER.

Ole Miss +4 at Vanderbilt (48): Ole Miss won opener at Memphis 10-6 and had week off. Vandy has dedicated its season to the late RB Kwane Doster and has come out smoking with wins over Wake Forest and Arkansas. Can’t find the last time the Dores won first three. Vandy has covered the last four meetings. VANDY.

FSU +1 at Boston Col (38): The only problem here is having to listen to the ABC announcers. Bowden and Noles have their hands full at Alumni Stadium. BC can’t wait for this street fight. The ”˜under’ is 31-7 in FSU’s last 38 contests. BC, UNDER.

Mich St +7 at N. Dame (55½): Still not sold on the Irish. Everything went right in win at Michigan. Points a little inflated here. MICH ST.

Miami, FL -7 at Clemson (44½): Hurricanes in double revenge mood here after losing a heartbreaker in opener against Florida State and falling 24-17 last year as a 16-point favorite to Clemson. No mistakes here for enraged Canes. MIAMI, UNDER.

FAU +32 at Minn (52): Don’t like laying lumber but can’t resist this one. Florida Atlantic has it tough moving up to Division I and facing established programs like Minnesota. Golden Gophers score early and often. MINNESOTA.

Last week: 2-6

Season: 6-11

Now for my NFL choice.

Steelers -4½ at Texans (39½): In the Steel Curtain days these two teams played some great games. The Texans were Oilers then. Still, I’m not sold that Big Ben will lead Pittsburgh to the promised land. Houston comes up big. TEXANS, UNDER.

Last week: 1-1, Season: 1-1
