Boise runs into trouble at Hawaii

Reading the story last week on how Las Vegas was going to monitor line moves on the Big 12 to see if there was any hanky panky going on made me laugh.

The NCAA just keeps getting dumber, and those guys weren’t even that stupid. First it’s the Indian names, now this. What will they come up with next?

The NCAA should worry less about Vegas and the line moves and more about some of the officials. The more games you see, the more questions and questionable calls are raised that even the instant replay camera can’t find. It leads me to conclude that officials have the most effect on the outcome of the game.

It’s not about cheating or anything like that, just about human nature. College football is no different than an ump in the majors. Some of these guys have pitchers they don’t like and won’t give them a call. Sort of like Randy Johnson and some umps.

Then you watch these guys with another pitcher and they give him anything that’s close. I am sure some officials in their subconscious just may favor another team more. Maybe I’m wrong, but it won’t be the first time.

Now let’s see if we can get some good calls and a few winners in college football.

Air Force +5 at Colo St.: Thursday night special. The books will be rooting for the "under" as almost every parlay will be Air Force / over, or C-State / over. Both squads can light it up. OVER.

Pitt +1½ at Rutgers: Friday night special. Pitt has its back against the wall along with new HC Dave Wannstedt, standing 1-3 going into the game. The Panthers got a much needed confidence builder in beating overmatched Youngstown State, 41-0. Pitt held Nebraska in check during a 7-6 loss two weeks ago. Rutgers could only manage 17 points against Buffalo last week. Look for the Pitt "D" to come up big. Hopefully, the offense can put a few on the board. PITT.

Va Tech -11 at W.Virginia: Starting the Saturday card. Shapes up as one big time battle. I think WVU got caught looking ahead last week in 20-15 win over East Carolina. The Mounties have a running game and a defense that will give VT all it wants. Points look great in here. VT is good at 4-0 both SU and ATS, but had its hands full in 20-16 win at NC State in first game of the season. This looks similar. WVA, UNDER.

Baylor +24 at Texas A&M: Baylor caught A&M in perfect spot last year off big time battle with Colorado. No such luck here as Baylor must travel to Kyle Field and face the big time revenge minded fans. It’s blow out time. TEXAS A&M.

Washington +21 at UCLA: Bruins 3-0 SU/ATS. And coming off bye week after big win over Oklahoma. UCLA is 7-0-1 ATS in last eight matchups with Huskies. UCLA.

Boise St -11½ at Hawaii: This could be the late night get out game. If you’re stuck, wait till late when the points go up. Boise just not the same off the blue turf. Warriors are one tough bunch at home. A must take. Just have patience. HAWAII

Last week: 4-3

Season: 16-19

Now for the NFL.

Colts -7 at Titans (45): Colts have become the defense surprise of the NFL. Last year they needed four or five TDs to win a game, now two will do. First three games they have given up 7, 3 and 6. That’s three "unders" going on four. UNDER.

Texans +10 at Bengals (41½): Texans scored seven in their first game and the same amount in Game 2. Take a week off, fire some coaches and that may do the trick, Don’t think so. Bengals could be last year’s Chargers, winning and covering first three games. The defense is playing like it’s possessed. I’m along for the ride. BENGALS

Last week: 1-0

Season: 3-2
