Happy ‘Hour’ can be an all-day affair

We’re always looking for good "Happy Hour" deals. Wild Wild West Gambling Hall (Tropicana at I-15) has just changed its offering for the better. The Loose Trax bar now runs a 2-for-1 Happy Hour from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, which is good on all drinks.

Slots-A-Fun on the Strip is still going strong with 75-cent bottled beer and cocktails every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Top shelf drinks and shots are excluded.)

Ellis Island Casino and Brewery checks in with ice cold handcrafted EIB (Ellis Island Brewery) draft beer for only $1, anytime, day or night and casino workers with valid work ID can drink for free from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the casino bar.

If you’re looking for the 75-cent hot dog cart at The Orleans, it’s gone, but take heart, they still have the mighty dogs nearby. The former cart located near the Sports Book has been retired. Instead they have opened a small snack bar between the Courtyard Café coffee shop and Don Miguel’s that still sells the 75-centers with all the fixin’s as well as other inexpensive sandwiches, snacks and beverages.

The Bait Shoppe, offering sundries, healthy eating and a fresh sushi bar, is now open at Hotel San Remo as part of the future Hooters Casino Hotel, which is scheduled to open in early 2006. The Bait Shoppe offers items like muffins and bagels, fresh fruit smoothies, espresso drinks, and a selection of gourmet salads and sandwiches, including the club salad ($7.99), California wrap ($7.50) and grilled salami sandwich ($7.50).

For dinner, the fresh sushi bar inside The Bait Shoppe presents a classic menu with appetizers and a variety of creative rolls.

Plan ahead for Halloween. This Halloween, Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is dressing up for the occasion to give costumed kids all the tricks — and treats — they seek. For one day only, Saturday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. children 12 and under in costume can "Trick or Treat" at Shark Reef for free.

We’ll look at some more Halloween and Oktoberfest specials next week.
