New Year’s Eve party favors for slot club members

New Year’s – the biggest party day of the year (and everyone should celebrate – it’s my birthday!). Last year was a bit spoiled due to the Y2K scares, but this year is going out with a bang with a huge fireworks show.

If you want to ditch the crowds and still enjoy the excitement, head over to the Regent Las Vegas. Not only will you have a great view of the fireworks you can get in on some of the great specials offered (including free hors d’oeuvres and party favors).

Beginning at noon on Sunday, the casino is offering two-to-one pay on suited diamond blackjacks, a reduced 4% commission on baccarat, and up to 10x odds on craps. Plus any slot player hitting the top award jackpot on a $1 and above machine will receive a certificate for dinner at the Ceres Restaurant. There will be $500 cash drawings every half hour, and a $5,000 giveaway at 10 p.m.

Changes, Changes

The Hard Rock revises its Backstage Pass program – and it’s not the first time (this year). The new system enables players to earn double the cash value they used to earn. For every $100 coin-in on slots or $200 coin-in on video poker, players earn $1. Rather than earning cash and comps, such as with the old system, players now earn cash rebates, which can be redeemed for cash or comps. Here’s some good news – any unredeemed comp dollars laying around from the old system has been converted to cash back, so you might have a Christmas check waiting for you that you did not expect!

John’s Club at John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks (next door to Reno) is putting limits on comps. Now, when players redeem a comp it is limited to two persons and will also have a maximum value. For example: the maximum dinner check per person at the Orozko is now $30, while at the Steakhouse Grill you can request a $40 per person comp. According to my Sparks friends, these are reasonable averages to enjoy a good dinner as long as you do not overdo on wine.
