The inaugural edition Leroy’s College Football Challenge drew more than 350 participants and its promoters are already planning for year 2.

"We’re still the little guy across the street from the Stardust Invitational, just trying to get the word out," quipped famed handicapper Jimmy Vaccaro, one of the founders for the event that carried a $250 entry fee.

"We appreciate all the support from customers and fans that have been kind to me and (Leroy’s head honcho) Vic Salerno," said Vaccaro, a past columnist for GamingToday. "We’re -interested in doing one for college basketball and definitely are fine tuning next season’s -college football contest."

In addition to the Challenge, Leroy’s held a separate college football contest for some of the top wiseguys, who put up their own money in a winner-take-all shootout. The "people’s" Challenge involved picking seven games off Leroy’s list of 32 for each of 17 weeks. Selected games are available each week at all Leroy’s locations, including the hub at Riviera.

The Riv is also the site for Leroy’s weekly radio show (Friday night 8-9 p.m.) featuring the top picks and personalities from the winner-take-all format. GT columnist Andy Iskoe was on top through eight weeks and won again at Stardust.
