Late night TV produced not your everyday score, 50-42, but one fit to give the Fresno State-USC thriller an identity that will stand out as an instant classic.

The visiting Bulldogs were a 22-point underdog that played the No. 1 team in the land the past two seasons on even terms from start to bitter end.

You may have correctly seen that Fresno State went up one slot to 17 in our latest Top 25 poll, GT’s way of showing that moral victories do count for something in the gaming world.

This week is the "lull before the storm" in college football, while we wait for the Dec. 3 shootout between USC and UCLA at the L.A. Coliseum. We won’t get to see Reggie Bush account for 513 all purpose yards this weekend, but hopefully some other quality efforts will allow us to improve our track record.

Last week: 4-5-1

Season: 59-59

Here we go.

Pitt +12½ at W. Va: HThe Panthers had played better of late under Wannstedt as QB Tyler Palco had settled down. But, the Mounties are a step up from what the Panthers have been playing. Plus, the Mounties are in top form. W. VIRGINIA.

Arkansas +17½ at LSU: The Razorbacks, like Ole Miss, will die a slow death against LSU. Even worse for the Pigs is the venue is Baton Rouge. LSU.

Ole Miss -3 at Miss St (37):First score in Starkville wins in this sleeper. UNDER.

Syracuse +35½ at Louisville: How high can you count? Notre Dame took it easy on the Cuse. Don’t expect that soft treatment. HC Bobby Petrino believes in throwing the football, even if it’s 50-7. LOUISVILLE.

Florida St +5 at Florida: Playing in Gainesville along with having the more experienced QB in Leak makes the difference. FLORIDA.

Georgia -3½ at Ga Tech: The Yellow Jackets shocked Miami’s world last week and has a win over Auburn. However, there is value in this shortened line for Georgia. The Dawgs have QB Shockley healthy again and will expose Tech’s erratic Reggie Bell. GEORGIA.

S.Florida -8½ at UConn: The Huskies are dysfunctional at QB since losing their No. 1 guy in midseason. South Florida, off the win at Syracuse adds another to a truly memorable season. USF.

Virginia +17½ at Miami, FL: The Cavaliers took it on the chin bigtime last week against rival Virginia Tech. Now they get one in the gut against the angry Canes. MIAMI.
