Casinos set for New Year’s bash

Dec 27, 2005 12:05 AM

As we count down to 2006, Las Vegas will be readying for the biggest free party night of the year on the Strip. New Year’s Eve fireworks will be launched from the rooftops of 10 casinos over a five-mile stretch from the Excalibur to the Stratosphere. The tops of the participating hotels will be illuminated by pyrotechnics in sync to Liberace’s "Chopsticks," turning the Strip into a "giant piano." An estimated 300,000 visitors will be in town to witness the show, which will run up a total tab of $500,000.

For a closer view of the New Year’s Eve spectacle, the New Frontier will be hosting an indoor/outdoor party with reserved seating where you can watch the Strip fireworks show, and dance and party the night away under the stars on the Las Vegas Strip. Enjoy classic tunes from KJUL Radio’s DJ during dinner followed a rockin’ live band until the countdown kicks in. You may even be part of the KVBC, Channel 3 award-winning New Years Eve broadcast, coming to you live from the party. Advance tickets are $55 or $65 at the door.

The New Year’s Eve downtown Fremont Street Experience party will feature fireworks and music by Cheap Trick, the Gin Blossoms, and the Spin Doctors performing on the outdoor stages throughout the evening. Tickets are $40.

If you’d rather party indoors for New Year’s Eve, you’ll find a party in almost every casino. For example, the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino will host "Retro Kaleidoscope," this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration with music that spans the last 40 years. Guests can look forward to a new year while reminiscing about the past with a costume contest, free champagne at midnight, and some of the best tribute bands around.

The party will include renditions from 1 Step Below, a Madness tribute band, Dressed to Kiss, a Kiss tribute band, Unauthorized Ozzy who impersonates Ozzy Osbourne, Eight Days a Week, a Beatles tribute band and Boogie Fever Disco Band. Festivities start at 9 p.m. December 31, 2005. The cost is $59.95 plus tax.

After New Year’s Eve, join in the "Morning After the Night Before" celebration at Ellis Island Casino and Brewery. For those who have survived the night before, the casino offers free Bloody Mary’s and a casino-wide all-day football party on New Year’s Day, January 1.

Until next time”¦be safe. Happy New Year! "Eat well, play well, stay well!"
