What a tale of woe that’s emanating from the office of the sheriff of Jefferson County, Ala.
All he did was follow the orders of the district attorney when he raided Birmingham Race Course and seized some 300 computer servers and sweepstakes video readers installed by Multimedia Games Inc. (MGAM) that the company was using in a new promotional game.
Then the sheriff got his knuckles wrapped by a Circuit judge who ordered that the machines be returned to Multimedia Games, saying the sheriff had no right to confiscate the devices.
Seems the D.A. has taken the position that the game and the devices used are illegal. But, the state attorney general has already declared that the promotion was within the laws of the state.
When the judge ordered the machines returned to Multimedia Games he ordered that the company not restore the promotional game until he holds a hearing on its legality.
The hearing is scheduled for January 17.
