Stars out-shoot Penguins

Jan 17, 2001 3:02 AM

Tuesday, Jan. 16

Tampa Bay at Buffalo: The Devil Ray’s are fighting to stay out of the cellar of the Eastern Conference while the Sabres are in the thick of contention for the best record. Devil Ray’s are the worst road team in the conference and the Sabres continue to shine at home. This is a mis-match, if you like free money then take Buffalo. Predicted score: Buffalo 4-0.

Wednesday, Jan. 17

Calgary at San Jose: The Sharks are 15-7-5 versus Western Conference opponents while the flames are just 8-14-5. These two clubs are 1-1 against each other this season with each other winning on the other team’s home ice. Look for the Sharks to avenge their last loss two weeks ago. Predicted score: San Jose 3-1.

Thursday, Jan. 18

Washington at Ottawa: This is a great match-up between these two divisional leaders. The Senators have the best record in the Eastern Conference. However, the Capitols are only five points behind them. Washington is 1-0 against Ottawa this season winning at Corel Centre 5-1. Washington also is 6-1-2 versus the Northeast Division while Ottawa is only 5-4-1 against the Southeast Division. We should get a nice price on Washington as a dog. Predicted score: Washington 4-2.

Friday, Jan. 19

Pittsburgh at Dallas: The Stars continue to play solid hockey both at home and on the road. Even though the Stars are in second place in the Pacific Division behind San Jose, their record would be good enough to lead everyone in the Eastern Conference. Dallas is 11-3-1 against the Eastern Conference and 5-1 versus the Atlantic Division. The Stars are 1-0 this season against the Penguins winning 8-2 in Pittsburgh last month. Predicted score: Dallas 6-3.

Saturday, Jan. 20

Vancouver at St. Louis: These two powerhouses collide at Savvis Centre in St. Louis. Each team has won a game this season on the other team’s home ice. The Canuck’s are in the middle of a very tough road trip in which they had to play in Colorado last Thursday and will travel to Dallas on Monday. Look for the Canuck’s to shock the Blues again on their home ice and getting a nice price as a road dog. Predicted score: Vancouver 4-3.
