Get ready to Rock!

Station Casinos uses no capital letters on its signage at red rock, a subtle hint that the new corporate hub in Summerlin is unlike any of its properties.

"This is the dream," said Art Manteris, vice president of race and sports operations at Station Casinos. "We raised the bar on building the ultimate gaming resort. Red Rock is a complement to the city and competitive with the nicest facilities on the Strip and all over the world."

The official public opening of Stations’ new billion dollar hub is Tuesday evening, with the race and sports book operational between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m., from now until football begins in late August (when hours expand).

Casino officials hosted the media last week for a tour of the "crown jewel," which included barbeque, catered lunch at Turf Grill, a look at the spacious outdoor pools featuring cabanas, upscale clubs like Cherry’s, elegant restaurants such as T-Bones, and the signature side-by-side, 18-by-32 foot screens in the race and sports book.

"The room can seat more than 200 (capacity is around 213) comfortably with TV monitors at each table, some 20 ticket windows, five VIP booths and the three jumbo screens showing multiple sports," said Jason McCormick, Red Rock’s director of race and sports. "The Turf Grill is right next to the book and customers can place orders from where they are sitting so they don’t have to miss a thing."

Parking at the West garage leads right into the race and sports book, and restroom facilities are just outside the sprawling room.

Manteris predicted that Red Rock Casino would change the whole dynamic of Las Vegas casino resorts.

"Now there is a fabulous destination property off the Strip," he said. "Red Rock will be an asset to Las Vegas. I remember when the new ride at Stratosphere opened and I thought at the time it would gain national attention — this place will. Red Rock will be a feather in the cap for Las Vegas."

The resort also features a large poker room, chandeliers priced at $400,000, a high rollers VIP club, and a lobby heralded as on par with the finest in the world.

"My greatest concern is the great expectations the public will have after receiving so many positive reviews from our guests," Manteris said. "Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta (Station Casinos chairman and president) designed the race and sports book room. When I first saw it on paper, my immediate reaction was ”˜you nailed it.’ I get a charge every time I walk into this place."

Station moved its operations from Palace Station, but the company has no intentions of standing still with its latest and most expensive project. Future plans call for a Station property in Reno, upgrades to the race and sports books at both Santa Fe and Green Valley Ranch, along with current construction at Fiesta Henderson (formerly The Reserve) at Lake Mead and Boulder Highway.

"We want to make Fiesta Henderson the cream of the crop of all little books," Manteris said. "I’ve always been a person who enjoys spending time in the race and sports book with the customers. I’ll be seen frequently both at Red Rock and Fiesta Henderson, that’s for sure."

McCormick said everyone at Red Rock was glad to have everything done prior to May 6, the date of the Kentucky Derby.

"I don’t know how many big money players we are going to get in here, but we want to make the VIP’s a very exclusive group," he said. "We want that section filled every day and we’ll offer the highest limits to see that we do."
