Kentucky Derby weekend is not just "the fastest two minutes in racing" but a party atmosphere each year with prizes, contests, special guest experts and perks available all around town. Here is a cross-section of local resorts’ activities.
”¡ Station Casinos is offering free gifts with minimum race book bets. Get a T-shirt at any Station casino, and an official Derby glass at Fiesta, Wildfire and Wild Wild West casinos. There will also be a $20,000 twin-Q tied to the Derby, plus a Jumbo Race Jackpot waiting to be hit.
”¡ Las Vegas Hilton will announce the winner of its Pick The Ponies contest, which will reward $30,000 to the winner. The contest drew 200 entries. There will also be a private party for some 400 invited guests in the ballroom. Mint julep glasses will be available for those making $20 wagers. Will give away T-shirt with a bet on the Derby.
”¡ Caesars Palace will give customers a T-shirt when making a Derby wager in the Race and Sports Book. T-shirts are available, while supplies last.
”¡ Suncoast: A $20 wager will get you a T-shirt or Derby glass. There will also be eight betting stations up in the Grand Ballroom with the doors opening at 8 a.m. Bets will be taken at all tracks. T-shirts will be distributed in the race book. Sports book director Eddie Ricca said bettors can stop by Friday to pick up a coupon for the Grand Ballroom. The coupon entitles you to a hot dog, beer and pastry.
”¡ Treasure Island is giving away Go Baby Go t-shirts and mint julep glasses to all reserve guests. Customers wagering $50 on the Derby can choose between the julep glass and the Derby T-shirt.
”¡ Terrible’s Casino will be celebrating "the most exciting two minutes in sports" with a Triple Crown T-shirt Giveaway starting with the Kentucky Derby on May 6. Bet $20 or more on any Triple Crown race (Derby, Preakness or Belmont) and receive a free commemorative Terrible’s Triple Crown custom logo T-Shirt.
