Efforts to thwart the building of the Seneca’s downtown Buffalo casino continued last week when Assemblyman Sam Hoyt (D) introduced a new bill. His proposed legislation would require the Seneca Nation and New York Gov. George A. Pataki to negotiate a new gaming compact that excludes the City of Buffalo.
City and county officials have claimed the Seneca misled them regarding their proposed casino market, and that the tribe ignored laws regarding historic preservation and the siting of Indian casinos.
The tribe broke ground last December on nine acres in downtown Buffalo designated as sovereign territory.
