Fireworks to ignite Fourth of July

Fireworks displays are always a free show, but a bird’s-eye view with a party is even better. The Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower will present its annual citywide fireworks display and "Sparkle and Splash Pool Party" on Sunday, July 2.

For the fifth year in a row, the world-famous Fireworks by Grucci, Inc. will produce a display that will be launched from the Stratosphere’s north parking garage and visible anywhere in Las Vegas. The display will start at 9 p.m. and will be 10 minutes in duration. The Independence Pool Party will be located on the Stratosphere’s pool and recreation deck on the eighth floor of the Premier Room Tower. The party will run from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. The price of admission is $49.99 per person for those 21 years of age and older and $25 for children ages 12 to 20 years.

Now expanded over two days, the 2006 Red, White & Boom Festival at Desert Breeze Park will be another hot spot this weekend. MTV favorites Hawthorne Heights have just been added to the July 3 line up. On Tuesday, July 4, Train headlines a talent-packed day with Blue October, Ne-Yo, Colin Hay, Jacks Mannequin and another local favorite, Away Station.

The spectacular outdoor extravaganza includes a fireworks show on July 3-4 from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Desert Breeze Park, 8275 Spring Mountain Road. Tickets are currently on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets. Admission is $17.50 per day in advance, $22 day of the event and a special $30 two-day pass is available for advance purchase only. A limited number of two-day VIP passes are available for $150 each.

For more cool summer fun, the Plaza’s new pool parties begin this Thursday, June 29. Sponsored by Jose Cuervo Tequila, the parties will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. $5 admission includes live entertainment, a free t-shirt and a coupon book. There will be a cash bar and food available. Ladies will be admitted FREE on the first Thursday, June 29 only.

Or check out "Cool By the Pool" on the third floor pool deck of the Las Vegas Hilton. It’s "Happy Hour" daily from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., where two-for-one drinks are served, with music (live and D.J.) and Foster’s and Bacardi are sponsors.

Until next time, have a safe and happy Fourth of July! Eat well, play well, stay well!
