Bad timing

The fiscal problems in New Jersey came at a bad time for Boyd Gaming Corp. (BYD) and its partner, MGM MIRAGE Inc. (MGM), at the Bellagio Hotel Casino and Spa which just opened an expansion at its Renaissance Pointe in Atlantic City.

The newly opened expansion is anchored by three new restaurants led by Bobby Flay, Michael Mina and Wolfgang Puck. It also contains a new 85-table poker room, a second nightclub and additional casino games. All of which will be left naked should the New Jersey shutdown continue.

Next in line for the Borgata, the city’s first true destination resort, is a second hotel adjoining the property. It will feature 800 guest rooms and suites, four swimming pools and a "spa in the sky."
