exec team with Kelley

Kevin Kelley, who gained his experience as a casino executive with Station Casinos Inc. (STN) and later was a top dog with Peter Morton at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, has joined the management team at Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS).

"Kevin is truly a unique individual with experience in all aspects of hotel and casino management, and we are delighted to have him join the organization, said Bradley H. Stone, executive vice president of LVS.

Kelley spent some three and one-half years at Morton’s side in the development of the Hard Rock and left when Morton announced he had sold the property.

Before moving to the Hard Rock, Kelley held several position with Station Casinos including being chief honcho as the Texas Station Casino.

Flush with its success in the opening of its racino, Tioga Downs in New York, Nevada Gold & Casinos Inc. (UWN) announced the appointment of Robert Sturges as a consultant to assist the company and its investment banker, Libra Securities, in evaluating various transactions under consideration.

Sturges participated in the development of the Casino Rouge Riverboat in Baton Rouge, La., and Casino Rama Resort and Casino in Toronto, Canada. He also spent nearly 15 years with Carnival Resorts & Casinos as president of the company’s gaming division.

Tioga Downs opened a 19,000 square foot gaming facility on July 4 and reported having more than 10,000 visitors on its first day. The property features 750 video gaming machines with each one averaging $343 on its first day of operation.

Youbet.com Inc. (UBET) has named Louis J. Tavano as general manager of business operations for its International Racing Group (IRG) subsidiary. He has been with the company since 2002.

Previously, Tavano was active in the practice of law in Las Vegas and also served as general counsel for Bally Gaming Inc.

Churchill Downs Inc. (CHDN) has promoted Ted Gay to vice president of business development and Julie Koenig Loignon to vice president of communications.

Kim Handy has been appointed vice president and general manager of the Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. (ISLE) property in Waterloo, Iowa.
