Cannery pays tribute
to Elvis the King

Elvis has returned to the building! The Cannery Casino & Hotel celebrates the King’s life on Aug. 11-12 with special performances by Johnny Fortuno and The Stamps Quartet as well as stories told by friends and co-stars of Elvis Presley. Tickets are $10 at the door, which opens at 6 p.m.

Special guests including Ed Bonja (Elvis’ official photographer and tour manager), Cynthia Pepper (co-star in Kissin’ Cousins), Darlene Tompkins (co-star in Blue Hawaii), Suzanna Leigh (co-star in Paradise, Hawaiian Style) and Jimmy Velvet (personal friend from 1957 throughout Elvis’ life) will provide personal anecdotes and reflections as they share memories of Elvis.

Other activities taking place throughout the weekend include memorabilia dealers and fan club displays. The Cannery Row Buffet will be taking part in the fun by hosting a special "Food that fed the King" section featuring Elvis’ favorite dishes.

The La Femme showgirls will be making a free appearance and signing autographs at The Palms Ghostbar on Tuesday, Aug. 8. They will be at a table in the club at 11 p.m. You can also see the "X" girls perform two special shows in "The Lounge" at the Palms on Aug. 11 at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Admission is free!

The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites everyone to a free outdoor tennis carnival on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Brinley Community School. Activities will include 10-minute sessions of small-group tennis instruction and games with local tennis instructors and pros. All participants will receive prizes and additional prizes will be awarded to winners. A new after-school tennis and education program that begins this fall also will be explained during the event. Those who have tennis rackets should bring them. No advance reservations are necessary. Brinley Community School is located at 6150 Smoke Ranch Road.
