Seattle finishes
job this season

Looking for a future wager on a team to win the Super Bowl this year? Well, I’m taking half my winnings from the Steelers last year and laying it on Seattle to win SB XLI.

The Seahawks didn’t lose anyone from last year’s SB and the NFC has fewer good teams contending for the championship. Other than Dallas, I just can’t find a team with a shot at beating the Seahawks. Plus, Mike Holmgren has the revenge card to play from last year’s SB result that he still has nightmares about.

Holmgren has installed the mental theme that it’s "us versus them." I look for inspired play the entire season and another trip to the promise land.

Now, for Week #2 of the NFL preseason. Opening lines were not released as GT went to press.

Thursday, August 17

Chiefs +3 at Giants (38): There are two games on Thursday and, since it is my 59th birthday, odds are pretty good I will have a winner. KC should be getting a few points in looking to break into the win column before facing the Rams in Arrowhead next week. CHIEFS.

Eagles +3 at Ravens (34½): This is the Eagles third game in just 11 days. Even with the Ravens having a lot of question marks, they have been a good preseason play in the past. They are due, coming off a 17-16 home loss to the New York Giants. RAVENS.

Friday, August 18

Bengals +3 at Bills (35½): Don’t put any credence in the close game the Bills played last week. Believe me, Buffalo stinks and I want no part of them. BEST BET: BENGALS.

Lions +2½ at Browns (34): Detroit has two good QBs, which often leads to preseason wins as evidenced in last week’s victory over the Broncos. Look for the Lions to chew up the "Dawgs" in the Pound. LIONS.

Chargers +3 at Bears (35½): Chicago trying to get some offense so expect an emphasis on scoring quick. Chargers played well last week and are 3-1 on the road the last two preseasons. CHARGERS, OVER.

Dolphins +2½ at Bucs (34): Nick Saban 1-5 SU, 0-4-2 ATS in six preseason games with the Fish. TB continues its good preseason play, going 6-2 ATS under Jon Gruden. BUCS.

Panthers +3 at Jags (35): Since Panthers’ big 10 game preseason streak came to an end last year they have failed to get back on track. Last week they blew a 14-0 first quarter lead that cost me a big win. Jaguars have been super at home (5-1 SU) in the preseason under Jack Del Rio. JAGS.

Cards +3½ at Pats (37½): This looks to be a real good bet. Cards off a game they really wanted, beating the world champion Steelers at home 21-13. Back to earth at Foxboro, where they should get hammered. BEST BET II: PATS.

Falcons -1½ at Packers (37): Atlanta was 3-0 both SU and ATS on the road last year. The Pack is not back! FALCONS

Vikings +4 at Steelers (36): Vikings coming off a Monday nighter with a lot of hype. Steelers will be ready to play at Pittsburgh. BEST BET III: STEELERS.

Texans +3½ at Rams (38½): Both teams with new head coaches and off wins last week. I will follow the Sid Diamond theory and take the home boys. RAMS.

Jets +3 at Skins (34½): New York and Washington managed just a field goal apiece last week. Skins are a little better than a year ago, unlike Jets. SKINS, UNDER.

Titans +5½ at Broncos (37½): Titans could not beat the Saints and will have little shot here against at Denver, especially off a Broncos loss. BEST BET IV: BRONCOS.

Sunday, August 20

49ers +3 at Raiders (38): The Niners are 5-0 in preseason under Mike Nolan. 49ERS.

Seahawks +3 at Colts (39½): Colts have now lost six straight in preseason, while Seattle is a solid 4-0 ATS on the road the last two years and 3-0 after a SU loss. BEST BET V: SEAHAWKS.

Monday, August 21

Cowboys -3 at Saints (35½): The "Boys" second team better than the Saints first. COWBOYS.

Last week: 9-7

Preseason: 10-8
