John F. Acres, an innovative pioneer in the electronic gaming industry, has been tapped as chairman of GameLogic, Inc.’s board of directors.
An inventor, entrepreneur and serial start-up CEO, Acres’ numerous contributions to the gaming industry include the modern progressive jackpot system and player tracking technologies. Recently, Acres has been conducting research and development on new-media casino games and promotions.
Currently, Acres is the founder and chairman of Acres Concepts, which develops intellectual property for the casino industry. In 1990, he founded Acres Gaming, where he developed and patented concepts and technologies related to bonusing and player tracking.
This technology was subsequently implemented by Anchor Gaming, IGT, Bally, Aristocrat, as well as at leading casino properties worldwide.
IGT purchased Acres Gaming in 2003. Prior to that, Acres co-founded Mikohn, now called Progressive Gaming International Corporation, where he developed the progressive slot machine jackpot system that has become a core fixture in casinos worldwide.
Earlier, as president and founder of Electronic Data Technology, Acres invented the modern slot player tracking system, which he sold to casinos worldwide. EDT was sold to IGT in 1985.
Acres also founded the Gaming Standards Association (GSA), an industry standards trade group. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
"John joins our board at a very exciting time for GameLogic," said GameLogic Chairman and CEO Steven Kane, "With increasing regulation of U.S. Internet gambling, gaming operators are seeking legal ways to employ web-based games and promotions to drive new-market revenues. John’s expertise in this area will be highly valuable."
"I align myself, through guidance or investment, with innovative companies that develop promotional gaming concepts," Acres said. "GameLogic has developed an intriguing formula to bring new-media in a regulatory-compliant way to the gaming industry in a time when many operators are not aware it is possible."
GameLogic creates Virtual Play(TM) gaming entertainment platforms to help legal casinos implement new-media strategies to tap new player markets, drive revenues, increase return visits and improve player loyalty.
The company’s platforms, including casino-branded Play for Fun websites, Real-Money Games and branded promotions, enable players to extend their enjoyment of their favorite casinos in a regulatory-complaint way.
GameLogic, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, was founded three years ago by the creators of Gamesville, one of the early, successful pioneers of online entertainment and games and related marketing. The company’s investors include Bain Capital, which has $37 billion of capital under management, as well as General Catalyst, and Maveron, whose principals include Howard Schultz, the founder and current chairman of Starbucks.
