Colorado’s casinos hit the jackpot in July, posting a record $74.3 million in proceeds.
Don Burmania, spokesman for the Colorado Division of Gaming, says July is typically the best month for casinos. That and the fact that there were five weekends this July helped to achieve the record.
The latest number soared above the previous record of $69.9 million, which was set the same time last year. It was also 17 percent higher than this June, when adjusted gross proceeds were $63.4 million.
Officials say the boost in July was also due to the completion of a $90 million upgrade that included a new gift shop and upscale restaurant at the former Mountain High Casino.
