Home no longer
guarantees victory

In bygone days, the home field advantage in the NFL was something to behold and take notice. Now, the players and times have changed.

If it weren’t for the fans, most of the players wouldn’t know where they were playing or care because it’s all about them. Most could care less about the home town fans. Looking at the last week’s NFL results, the home team went 3-10 ATS. The one home favorite that did cover was Jacksonville, opening at -2½ against Dallas.

The Cowboys actually closed as a -2 point favorite at some books. Now what does this all mean? Well. I guess you just can’t give any extra advantage to many NFL teams at home. There are still some that are very tough to down at home like the Broncos and Steelers, but after that I just don’t know.

I started off with a perfect record, going 0-4 to make several of my followers very happy. I promised not to give up trying to get some winners. I may have a couple this weekend, but first a look at colleges.

Saturday, Sept.16

Cincinnati +29½ at Ohio St: The Buckeyes looked like a National Champion Austin, dismantling the Longhorns to the chagrin of Brent "mushmouth." The "mush" was an embarrassment to the network and almost sick when finally figuring Texas was going to lose. I gave Cincy a big shot at home last week getting 8 from Pitt, but a poor coaching decision cost the cover. I don’t see Ohio State in a blowout mood. The Bearcats will give a big time effort. CINCY.

Wake +4½ at UConn: Wake scored 20 points at home vs Syracuse and then could only manage 14 at home against Duke. UConn has a quality offense. Unless Wake has been hiding its offense, I see a repeat of 2003 when the Huskies won going away 51-17. UCONN.

Ohio +17 at Rutgers : The host Scarlet Knights look to be on a mission and just may be for real. Rutgers is off wins at North Carolina (21-16) and Illinois (33-0). This won’t be any cakewalk, but look for the Jersey boys to keep rolling. RUTGERS.

Florida -3 at Tenn: With all the hype on Notre Dame and Ohio State, it’s like the Gators have stayed under the radar. Florida is loaded and now comes into a very tough test in Knoxville. Air Force exposed the Vols last week. FLORIDA.

Michigan +7 at ND: Wolverines have some big time talent, but HC Lloyd Carr is one of the worst in big games. The Irish showed last week they are the real deal and have a decided home field advantage. Not to mention coaching. IRISH.

UAB +17 at Georgia: In what looks to be a low scoring game, I would usually prefer the dog. Here, UAB may not score so I’ll lay the 17. GEORGIA.

NC State +2½ at So. Miss: State was in life and death spot just to beat App State 23-10, then lost at home to Akron 20-17. So. Miss has one of the best defenses in C-USA and should shut down what little offense the Wolfpack have. SO. MISS. (BEST BET) ).

LSU +3 at Auburn: This will be one humdinger of a battle. Both teams loaded, but must bet on the Tigers. That’s the visitors, whose defense will be my answer for laying 3. AUBURN.

Now what all have been waiting for, my NFL selections for this weekend.

Ravens -8, Eagles -3, Packers +1, Pats -6 and my Monday night BEST BET Jaguars -2 ½.

I got you guys this week.
