Southern Cal needs to shake its Booty.
With Florida the latest No. 2 team to fall, the Trojans were set in our GT Top 25 poll to inherit that volatile, but coveted position right behind Ohio State.
So what happens? The Trojans blow a 21-0 lead and barely beat Arizona State, 28-21. Not the way a 20-point favorite should look in seeking No. 2, despite being rated so in the first BCS poll.
So we moved Michigan behind the top-ranked Buckeyes to set up their Nov. 18 showdown in Columbus. And, unless USC finds some offense behind QB John David Booty, the Notre Dame matchup figures to be a loss. Then No. 2 could come down to West Virginia-Louisville.
And, don’t completely rule out another Tennessee-Cal game.
By the way, ESPN called last week Separation Saturday. Sometimes, I’d like to separate myself from that network.
Rutgers +6½ at Pittsburgh: Panthers looked great against Central Florida. Palco playing his best ball as a fifth-year senior QB. Rutgers is a cover machine, taking advantage of Navy losing its starting QB to cruise. Too many points to give the Scarlet. RUTGERS.
NC State +3½ at Maryland: State on a downer after losing to Wake. Maryland on a big high from Virginia comeback. The hook makes us lean toward the Pack. NC STATE.
UNLV -28½ at BYU: If feeble New Mexico can score 38 on the Rebels, imagine how many BYU will get. We see 60s. BYU.
Texas -6½ at Nebraska: Somebody needs to challenge the Longhorns. The Huskers have the pedigree and HC Callahan is becoming a gambler. But, less than a TD. Nope. TEXAS.
Tulane +31½ at Auburn: The Tigers need to find an offense. Hapless Tulane offers the perfect outlet for success. AUBURN.
Miami -18 at Duke: The Canes suspended 11 players for this one. Miami has been an offense wreck all year. The U is not FSU now. Duke has a chance at home to hang in. DUKE.
Miss +16½ at Arkansas: Ole Miss off emotional OT loss at Tuscaloosa. The Pigs have come together under the freshman QB Mustain. ARKANSAS.
Toledo +2 at E. Michigan: What has happened to Toledo. Maybe HC Amstutz should visit Jenny Craig. EMU.
