The Connecticut Strip?

It’s not Las Vegas, but this once-rural corner of the state is getting a pair of sleek new towers and plenty more gambling at Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun.

In 2006, Foxwoods made the first move. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe announced a partnership with gambling giant MGM Mirage in April.

Their first project is the MGM Grand at Foxwoods — a $700 million expansion with gambling, a 4,000-seat theater, convention space, restaurants and clubs, and a 30-story hotel tower.

Not to be outdone, the neighboring Mohegan Sun announced in November its own expansion plans with a high-profile partner. House of Blues, a rock club, hotel and casino company, will headline that $740 million project.

Oh, and it includes a new hotel tower that is expected to be the state’s tallest building.

And if Connecticut isn’t enough of a universe, both tribes are pushing into Pennsylvania.
