NASCAR popularity
leaves lasting image

I have nothing personal against NASCAR, just that it’s been like the fly you can’t seem to swat away.

When I worked in Florence, South Carolina there was Darlington. Then my second journalism job in Daytona Beach and right smack dab into Speed Weeks and the home of stock car racing.

Surely my cross country move to the desert would rid me of my tormentor, but up pops the new and improved Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I would consider Hawaii, but my luck NASCAR would proclaim a Don Ho Hawaiian Punch 500 road race along Waikiki.

Montana is an option.

The 2007 season begins in a couple of weeks, but Caesars Palace has posted some props for the Nextel Cup driving championship based on season wins and top 10 finishes.

GamingToday motorsports guru Micah Roberts is the best source for expertise at picking weekly winners, and his column will return prior to the Daytona races. For now, here’s the Caesars list to mull over in preparing for MR.

All 36 Nextel Cup races must be raced. The listed drivers (above) must qualify and run in at least 25 events for betting action to be transacted. Wagers are for the points events only. Shootouts, dual races, All Star competitions, Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series do not apply.

If consistency is the model, then my recommendation is Jeff Gordon. The 24 car is always in the picture and it has been five years since his last drivers title. Now a happily married guy again and expecting a child. this is a relaxed, re-dedicated driver heading into Daytona.
