Pistons, Spurs rising

Feb 27, 2007 6:35 AM

While the Dallas Mavericks are in the midst of yet another double-digit winning streak, old reliables Detroit and San Antonio are starting to crank up for a long playoff run.

The Pistons have won four straight and appear to have re-kindled the flame that was lacking when Ben Wallace decided to leave for Chicago. A slick trade to secure Chris Webber from Philly has been a huge success so far. Webber is playing his best ball in years.

The Spurs just keep rolling along but when Manu Ginobili erupts, the team lifts its game to another level. Ginobili recently scored 44 and is playing his best basketball since San Antonio won the NBA title several years ago. Good betting value on both right now.

WEDNESDAY (estimated lines)

Warriors +12 at Bulls: Golden State is terrible on the road in back ends of consecutive games. Here’s another failure. CHICAGO.

Knicks +1 at Celtics: NBA-TV has it. Expect plenty of Knicks fan to make the trip to Beantown. Knicks thinking playoffs. NEW YORK.

THURSDAY

Cavs +11½ at Mavs: TNT’s main game so expect Lebron to put up big numbers and keep the game close for the viewers. CLEVELAND.

FRIDAY

Pacers +12½ at Suns: Jermaine O’Neal needs to score 40 to keep Pacers in this one. No answer for Amare Stoudemire. PHOENIX.

SATURDAY

Pistons -5 at Grizzlies: Detroit plays great team defense. Memphis is clueless. Gasol and Miller firing 3s won’t get it done. DETROIT.
