Horses to Watch

TIZFIZ: First time starter was let go at better than 15/1 in what looked like a very tough race. This girl broke slow, was taken to the inside and had to be checked when lacking room on the rail. Split horses down the stretch and finished fast to pick up the place, more than 3 lengths clear of the field. This girl can flat out run and the longer the better. $$$

MOLENGAO: Just another of those Brazilian imports sent to trainer Paulo Lobo. This guy looks like he could be a superstar off his performance in the 28th Mervyn Leroy Handicap. He chased and stayed outside as jock tried to keep him out of any trouble. Gained the lead in midstretch, pulled clear and on a tight hold late in what was the easiest of wins. A monster in the making.

I’M ALL OUT: Had the misfortune of facing 3/5 odds in his last race, but ran on nicely to be a clear second. This one will be a nice single in his next start.

TOTALLY PLATINUM: Broke dead last, then took to the outside in traffic. Angled in entering the stretch, but again forced out in midstretch. Did manage to get the show money. Looks ready for a huge effort in second start of the layoff. $$$

SWEET WAY: Hadn’t been out since last August at Del Mar, but was sent off as the 2/1 second choice. He stumbled at the start and lost all chance. Look for a clean break and a visit to the winner’s circle in next start.

WARRENS QUEEN: Had no shot at the runaway odds on winner, but ran a super race at 33/1. Looks ready to graduate at what will be another good price.

HI BEAUTIFUL: Ran well on the dirt and was trying the grass for the first time in a straight maiden race. She showed good speed, but tired and settled for the show dough. If back on the dirt in her next start, dig deep and send it in.

MODEL: First time starter for Neil Drysdale was sent off as the 5/2 chalk in this race, but had no chance at chasing down the speed. Did run on to get the place. This girl may want longer. If stretched in her next start will be a big play for me.

MADERA ROYAL: Was in from Bay Meadows, where she had just run a credible race on the turf course. She was being tried on the cushion track here and took to it like a duck to water. Cruised home under a hand ride to win by 5. This girl looks like a repeater on the cushy Hollywood Park track. $$$

WARRENS KITTEN: Chased between horses inside, then lacked room off heels into the stretch. Had to check back and swing to the outside, but closed with a rush to pick up the show. Missed second by less than a length. Kitten looks ready to pop at a big price.

GRITS: Broke slow, then got in tight and had to check hard off heels midway on the turn. Once clear, came on for the place in what was a nice try.

GIANT BASIL: Was in from Belmont, where he ran last June for Bobby Frankel. Mr. F has always been high on this horse and has taken his time bringing him back. He ran a better than looked race, winning by a nose. It could have been a length. Look for the move up and another score for this up and comer.

DEPUTY LAD: Back classer came from way behind in this 10k low level claimer to get the win. It was a much needed confidence builder. Look for him to rattle off a few more now that he remembers how it’s done.

GOOD NIGHT KISS: Was off slow, settled inside and came out for room into the stretch. Closed fast to be one of four horses on the wire. This guy had a really hard luck trip and must be respected big time in next start. $$$

TEMECULA CREEK: Will be hard to deny on the stretchout.

REDMAN: Looks like repeater.

CALENDAR ISSUE: Should graduate in next start.

HATTA FLOWE: Looks like a solid claim for trainer Jaruegui, who operates a very sneaky stable of horses. $$$
