I was at The Orleans cashing winning tickets on the Preakness for both Curlin and the trifecta when the Taylor-Spinks title fight is being shown on one of the big-screens in a showroom. Being a fight-starved fan hoping to see anything better than Mayweather-De La Hoya, I joined the fight in progress with round 5. What a mistake!

On a 1-to-10 scale (Floyd-Oscar was 5), this was ½. No wonder the UFC is stealing fans by the day from boxing. Taylor won a split decision in Memphis (close to his Arkansas roots), by being the so-called aggressor. Whoever scored the fight 117-111 for Spinks probably came from American Idol. When the undercard beats the feature, something is painfully wrong. — Mark MAYER
