First dibs on All Star Game: This year it’s the NL

It’s still roughly seven weeks away from the All Star Game, but we want to be first on record saying the NL is finally going to win. The AL has dominated mainly because of a superior talent pool. The gap has closed significantly this year, especially at shortstop. In past years, the NL had nothing comparable to Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Nomar Garciaparra or Miguel Tejada. Now they do in Jose Reyes (Mets), J.J. Hardy (Brewers) Hanley Ramirez (Marlins) and Jimmy Rollins (Phillies). Of the 9 leaders in the prime categories, 7 come from the NL. Reyes is first in steals, Hardy in RBI and Ramirez in runs. With the game in San Francisco, the NL will finally be the host league for the World Series. WEDNESDAY Phils at Marlins: Garcia will really sweat in FLA. MARLINS. Twins at Rangers: Boofster 3-0 in last 3 starts. TWINS. Indians at Royals: Cliff Lee 2-0 since off DL. INDIANS. THURSDAY Angels at Tigers: Ervin Santana struggles away from Anaheim. TIGERS. Mets at Braves: Glavine vs. Smoltz. Wow! BRAVES. SUNDAY Indians at Tigers: ESPN.
