Don’t count Senators out

The Ottawa Senators are still alive in their quest for a first Stanley Cup, but a Game 4 loss to Anaheim on Monday would have basically sealed the deal for the Ducks.

The series has become a battle of wills and physique. The top storyline is the availabity of Chris Pronger, considered the top defensiveman in hockey and stalwart for Anaheim’s backline.

Pronger was suspended from Game 4 for delivering a cheap shot that send one of the Ottawa players to the hospital with a concussion.

Without Pronger on the backline, Ottawa’s top scoring line of Daniel Alfredson, Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley figured to have a good scoring night and even the series at 2-2.

Should that happen, Ottawa would need to win at least once in Anaheim to secure the Cup. The host Ducks would be big favorites in Game 5 with Pronger’s return.

J.S. Giguere has outplayed Ray Emery in the nets so far and that pattern figures to continue in Game 5.

This really looks to be a seven-game series with the ultimate showdown coming this weekend at Anaheim.

We’re sticking with our pick of the Senators in 7 based on their impressive effort in eliminating Buffalo, the league’s point leader during the regular season.

PICKS: Anaheim in Game 5, Ottawa in Game 6 and 7. Neither team has ever won the Cup.
