Winning that big Kahuna: Just ride those waves

Jul 3, 2007 7:52 AM

It’s more like surfing than baseball with teams riding high in April, shot down in May. As for June, they were busting out all over — good and bad.

July begins this week with what should produce Barry Bonds’ record homer 756 to pass Hank, hopefully in San Francisco. I’m sure we’ll see betting odds on what date it occurs, but we’d rather focus on betting hot teams and against the ice cold.

The numbers are quite revealing:

Atlanta: 5-1 after an 0-5 slide.

NY Mets: 9-1 following 2-9 run.

Tampa Bay: 1-6 after 2-0 run.

Seattle: 9-1 after 0-6 slide.

Colorado: 1-9 after 7-1 run.

Cubbies: 9-0 after 1-4 skid.

Only Boston and the LA Angels are playing over .600 ball. Only Cincinnati is playing below .400.

That means lots of opportunities for heavy favorites to fall flat on their butts, which is what happened when KC swept 3 from the Angels.

No wonder we had our worst week of the season.

D’Rays at BoSox: Wakefield is 15-2 lifetime vs TB. SOX.

Twins at Yanks: Santana tops Mussina and good price. TWINS.

Mets at Rockies: Maine back in form as is Beltran. METS.

Marlins at Padres: Peavy at home is $$$. PADRES.

Braves at Padres: ESPN wants Maddux vs Braves. PADRES

Last week: 2-4.

Season: 61-42 (59.2)
