Marlins continue to play baseball the right way

My dad will appreciate this week’s piece because he turns a young 83 on Bastille Day (Saturday, July 14) and is a transplanted Marlins fan from the Bronx.

The Marlins are amazing. They are two-time world champions, hold annual fire sales because of cheap ownership and yet stay competitive with young talent year after year.

Heck, All-Star Miguel Cabrera is ancient on the Fish at age 25. Well, the Marlins won a game Friday night at Dodger Stadium by going old school. SS Hanley Ramirez, last year’s Rookie of the Year hit two homers, but wih two down and the go-ahead run on third in the 10th, he bunts for a base hit. Not many players would have bunted in that spot.As a baseball purist, I enjoyed it.

By the way, Ramirez is every bit as good as Jose Reyes only without the publicity. I wonder how long he’ll be in Florida before he leaves.

Happy birthday, dad.

Yanks at D’Rays: Yanks need big start and nobody better here than Pettitte, 11-1 vs TB. YANKS.

Chisox at O’s: Contreras still struggling and up for a deal. O’s have the best Guthrie since Arlo and Janet. ORIOLES.

Cards at Phils: Howard shows ESPN that 507-foot power. PHILS.
