Horses to Watch

SOLAR BLAST — This 2-year-old broke from an outside post going two furlongs and drifted out slightly to the wire. This trainer knows how to get his young horses ready for this distance. He trains quarter horses, too.

KING SLAYER — This turf specialist raced outside on the downhill turf course and made a late surge from the outside to just miss. Now goes to the Hess Barn.

KAHIHI MAGGIE — Allowed to settle back early before she found her best stride. Raced three wide on the far turn, four wide in the stretch, and closed strong to gain the place. Play her back with Desormeaux.

SUNATRA — Lost all chance in last. She stumbled badly at the start to trail early before she found her best stride to make a late bid to gain third. Only needs a clean break.

TAMIKA — Swung three wide on second turn to gain the lead, but she got nailed from behind right on the wire. Should make amends next time out.

WESTERN WILLY — He was shuffled back early before he found his best stride to make a four wide to break his maiden. Should handle winners at first asking.
