With the popularity and growth of fantasy football, we felt it was time to do some projections since Las Vegas has gotten involved with a variety of fantasy props and contests.

It would be entirely easy to say the likes of LaDainian Tomlinson and Peyton Manning will have excel every week, so we’ll stay away from that type of projection. However, if there is any reason to believe that maybe one or the other Superstars might have a poorer week than usual, we’ll pass on the reasons why.

What you’ll see weekly is a list of players we think will shine in their upcoming games with supporting reasons. These players won’t be drafted in anyone’s top tier. You’ll also see a list of players that may be best to stay away from in your league, contest, or wagering equation. Players that could be utilized on a variety of props.

Many of the conclusions and reasoning you’ll see also corresponds with why the point spread is what it is in those games.

WEEK 1

Top players to shine

RB Edgerrin James — AZ at SF: Had two of better games of 2006 against SF that resulted in two AZ wins.

RB Ahman Green — Hou vs KC: Should be healthy enough to lead Kubiak’s potent attack against last season’s 27th ranked rush defense that didn’t improve much.

WR Marques Colston — NO at IND: Whoever you believe will win, Colston still will get his. Odds say Saints likely will be down which forces Brees to pass.

QB Carson Palmer — CIN vs BLT: Home and away is huge between the two teams. Palmer has owned the great BLT defense in Cincy the last 2 seasons. Over 550 combined yards and 3 TDs in two Bengals wins. At Baltimore, different story.

RB LaMont Jordan — OAK vs DET: Huge disappointment in ’06 returns healthy and backup Rhodes is suspended for first four games. Expect 20-25 carries vs poor Lions defense. Jordon is a nice threat on the screen pass as well!

QB Matt Hasselbeck — SEA vs TB: With 4 solid WRs, Marcus Pollard at TE, and a healthy Shaun Alexander, all the pieces are in place for a nice start at home.

Top players to struggle

Travis Henry — DEN at BUF: Offense has not looked like a Shanahan team in any preseason game. New offensive linemen and a QB with a bad wrist have makings of a team that will struggle, not to mention that Denver traditionally loses badly as a Week 1 road favorite.

RB Larry Johnson — KC at HOU: Preseason holdout comes in late to a Chiefs offense that is loaded with questions. Huard, Parker, Kennison won’t scare the Texans, so expect eight men up front looking to stop Johnson. Bennett will steal some carries due to LJ’s late arrival.

QB Vince Young — TEN atJAX: In two games against the Jaguars last year Young was 23-51 for 248 yards, 3 INT’s and 1 TD. Not worth taking.
