The undeniable truth: Gore outshines elite RBs

A couple of great surprises from Week 2 included Brett Favre throwing 3 TD’s, Joey Galloway catching 2, and Derek Anderson slinging 5 in the suddenly high powered Browns attack. The Fantasy star of the week, and likely the year, was Carson Palmer who went for 400 yards and 6 TD passes in a loss.

After two weeks we have also seen three of the top four draft picks in most fantasy drafts turn into massive busts. LT, LJ, and Steven Jackson have struggled, while Frank Gore has flourished.

If looking for possible additions to your squad, RB DeShawn Wynn scored twice for Green Bay and impressed more than regular RB Brandon Jackson, who barely averaged 2 yards a carry. The Packers are one of the many teams around the league that are going with a steady dose of equal handoffs to two RBs. That makes for a tough decision when filling out a starting lineup. Before getting too excited about Anderson as an addition, let’s see if Romeo (Crennel) comes with an open offense again. It’s likely he just saw how awful the Bengals defense was on film and found a way to expose them.

Week 3 Surprises

QB Matt Schaub — HOU vs IND: We’re definitely buying into Gary Kubiak’s system that now finds the Texans 2-0. Houston has a shot at winning game and it will be because Shaub’s passing attack along with a great young defense.

RB Brian Westbrook — PHIL vs DET: The Lions defense has had trouble the last two weeks with good pass catching RBs. They will see one of the league’s best and he won’t disappoint. Look for total yards over 160 yards with a couple scores.

QB Vince Young — TENN at NO: Young and Reggie Bush get to meet again. Remember what happened in the title game two years ago? Big game for Young in his first Monday night appearance with scores expected to come on both the ground and air. Saints defense really needs some home cooking after two bad efforts on the road.

WR Santana Moss — WASH vs NYG: Two or three times a season Moss has one of those epic games where he looks like most dangerous player in the game. This week he can add chapter to that storyline against an awful Giants defense. In the last two games, the Giants have given up 8 TDs to the opposing QB.

WR Deion Branch — SEA vs CIN: Branch and Hasselbeck can’t wait to face a Bengals defense that allowed 5 TD passes to the Browns.

RB Carnell Williams — TB vs STL: Jeff Garcia has brought new life to the Tampa offense and "Cadillac" will reap the rewards in the redzone!

RB Clinton Portis — WASH vs NYG: Giants soft defense will see a heavy load of Portis and Betts. Look for Portis to hit paydirt twice!

Week 3 downers

RB Jamal Lewis — CLEV at OAK: Don’t get caught up in Lewis hype after as his 215 yd performance vs Cincy. Oakland’s defense is much tougher to run on than what the Bengals showed.

RB Edgerrin James — ARZ at BLT: The Edge will get plenty of attempts and have the support of his coach, who is committed to the run. However, the Ravens may force a change in what the Cards have shown in their game plan the last two weeks. Not that it’s any easier to pass, but trying to bully the Ravens D-line is game-plan suicide.

RB Stephen Jackson — STL at TB: Something is not right in St. Louis. Jackson’s lack of preseason work may have lead to a very sluggish start. Tampa defense looked great vs Saints multiple weapons.

QB Tony Romo — DAL at CHI: Two great weeks vs Giants and Fish”¦ Tony comes back to earth against a Bears defense that will blitz him all night!
